Readings for yourself...

I have been learning tarot for about a year, mostly on my own. I was immediately taken in by the imagery of tarot, and have read as much as possible on the subject.
I have done several distance readings for friends as well as anyone in my family who I could coerce into letting me read for them , but primarily I read more for myself.

I find that when I am not emotional and simply seeking general guidance, my readings are more clear.
The biggest problem I run into is when I try to seek guidance regarding things that I have a major emotional investment in.

I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on reading for yourself. Is it ever possible to really remain objective? And are there any techniques that help?

I have tried meditation with -some- success. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice.

Love and Light,

Liz

Yeah, I've noticed my readings make a lot more sense when I'm not asking about something particular. Usually I do the Celtic Cross and ask for an explanation of the Now. It keeps it simple. That approach has worked well for me for awhile now, the only snag is how long it takes to interpret the whole spread.

I'm sure it doesn't matter what spread you're doing - it just helps to keep it open-ended because then you're not boxing yourself into fortune-telling. That's not really how it's supposed to work, explaining your future... it's supposed to be more of a guideline or a map of what's happening for the Seeker at the moment of the reading. How the past enters, how the present stands, how all that will tint the future. Since it doesn't necessarily give answers like, boom this specific thing will happen next, then in that way, it kind of makes sense that the questions need to be open-ended as well.

Just my two cents =) Much luck with your tarot readings

Hi,

I have a tendancy not to trust the cards if I read for myself!! Because I may be bias.

But, that does not mean they give you bad advice. For some it may work. To be totally objective is really or virtually impossible. You will always search out the best reflections from the cards.

However, you can "test" your readings, by keeping a record of them and then have a look see, what really happened.

You can also visit this link, you may find some interesting subjects.

Blessed be.

This topic will be raised over and over again.... and we shall each give our different opinions.
It is what works for each individual.

Sometimes I pick three cards for myself and I ask what are the highlights of my day or what is there for me to know? If the cards done make sense (sometimes they make sense immediately) I leave them on the table to keep referring to them during the day. Sometimes they dont mean much to me - and this is where personal bias comes as Payewacker mentioned above. Do not underestimate the personal bias - the best of us suffer from it.

As for tarot telling or not telling a future or The Future, we can debate about it until the cows come home. If you asked a predictive question, I reckon you will get a futuristic or a predictive answer. As to what you do with the answer, is totally up to you. We deviate from the advice given, then we consequently change the outcome too - chain reaction.

i think that you can do readings for yourself but probably better if someone else does the reading.  i have done them for me but don't really like doing that because i will get a flood of emotion surrounding every card i turn off especially if i think my life is not going anywhere quick.l
