While posting on the Rider White about the Queen of Swords, there issued an interesting debate on her possible astrological sign.

I know there are quite a few books linking astrology and Tarot, and I believe there are even some decks with the sign or at least the regent planet named on each card.

I never bothered to learn those by heart, specially since there seem to be quite a few discrepancies. I just associate Wands with Fire signs -Leo, Aries and Sagittarius-, Swords with Air -Gemini, Libra, Aquarius-, Pentacles with Earth -Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn- and Cups with Water -Piscis, Cancer, Scorpio-.

Then, based on what I know about the meaning of each court card and the "personality" I associate with each -they bring to mind people I know-, I think of them as being more like a certain sign or another, but in a flexible, approximate way.

What are your views on this? Anybody compares court cards with people they know? Have you ever met a Knight of Swords or a Queen of Pentacles?

The thing is Pirbid, the Knights are not related to astrological signs in the tarot..... surprisingly though. It is Queens, Kings and the Pages which are realted to astrolgoical signs. Dont ask me why.

I have to say there is someone I know closely who, astrolgoically, is the Page of Swords...... typical in every way. Now I see this person's traits changing from the Page of Swords to the King of Pentacles which is not surprising perhaps as he is just on the cusp of Taurus and Gemeni. There are other changes happening in this person's life which are brining him to an evn more mature level. I dont know much about the individual personality characteristics of each zodiac sign, but I can relate quite well to the King of Cups myself, as it is my start sign and his personality/quality befits me too.

I am sure we meet Knight of Swords or Knight of Wands in our daily life, but as far as the tarot goes, I have not seen any cross reference with the Knights to the Western Astrological signs..

Any corrections or further information is welcome.

Is that so? I never had heard.

I see the Knights as having very definite personalities. In fact, it was the pages that I saw described in some books as meaning news or some such, rather than a person. Or also children, as opposed to full fledged personalities. In fact, I now seem to recall Knights as depicting the impetuous and rebellious nature of teenagers, while queens and kings would be fully grown men and women.

Still, I sometimes find it hard to accept the authority of what books say on this subject, specially since it all depends on what book you are reading. So how reliable are they? Well, I'd say as much as we want them to be, I guess.

I find it very interesting the way you are tracking the progress of your friend through different Court personalities. It is true we must change as we develop.

Me, I see myself as a mad Knight of Wands, but haven't yet lost hope of getting to be more like the Queen of Wands: maybe when I am a stayed old little lady, crotcheting away like mad, hee, hee.

As for your connection to the King of Cups, I heartily agree. I also see you as steady, responsible, creative, caring and tolerant. I find it curious that the side of you that needs to feel in control of your emotions also comes up in your Strentgh card and your Chariot. I mean, the word "control" tends to come up in the meanings of all three cards, so it must be important to you. Have you noticed?

He he he he... Pirbid... yes, in way you are right. I am not a control freak though, but I like to control things/events/situations around me, and sometimes to no avail.
Well spotted my friend!

I do sense the Wand in you Pirbid in your postings and the time that I have known you, but I cannot see you crocheting like any queen...... No Sir. Our Queen of Wands is not a home-sitter, she is out there showing her new frock, her new hat, her new shoes and teasing all and sundry with her sexuality...... Bang, bang!!

As for the Knights, all I meant was they are not depicted as Astrological signs in the tarot. I do not know why though. I do wholeheartedly agree with you as to their personalty traits. I would have preferred to have the Knights as Zodiac signs portrayed in the tarot rather than the Pages... hmmmmmm...... I did not write the tarot books.

Oh, dear, that "trying to control everything around us to no avail" certainly sounds familiar. I know I do it constantly. Of course, I do it in the style of the 7 of Wands: banging away at my -mostly imagined, I hope- enemies, subtlety never having been one of my strong points
