Do they not look beautiful together? I have always associated water with emotions, dreams, the subconscious mind... So it is no surprise that the cards with water in it tend to deal in those same things.
One of the more obvious is the Star, which always reminds me of the astrological sign of Aquarius, and which I take to mean calm waters/emotions. On the regular RW, this card is very similar to Temperance in the action taking place (one foot in and one out of the water...), although Ciro Marchetti has "pulled" his Temperance up into thin air while still pouring from one cup into the other. I see Temperance as self induced calmness, rather than the more natural, effortless calm in the Star.
The Moon is another obvious one, dealing with some deep, yet unfaced emotions. I put it together with the Priestess because of her moon symbol. Looking at the RW Priestess, not many would think her a watery card, but Marchetti has pulled away the veil behind her and... voilá! (if you look at it closely, there is a lot of water behind the RW Priestess). I take it to mean that the Priestess places a strong emphasis on intuition rather than the rational mind.
And, finally, yes, I confess I cheated a little and included the Lovers, which is not usually a watery card. But it deals with strong emotion, too, and since Marchettti has dipped his Lovers and they looked good beside Temperance... There you are!
