Hello, everyone! I'm Natasha and I'm nearly seventeen. I've been interested in the Tarot for quite some time and really started to look into it back in November. Well yesterday I bought my first deck. It's just really basic which is good for me right now since I'm just learning how to use them. I thought it best to go easy, simple, and right-to-the-point for now until I perfect this. I already have a few decks in mind for the future.

Of course I'm going through that phase in life where I'm questioning things and finding certain things very interesting. Needless to say, so are my friends. So I was on the phone with Lindsey, my best friend, and I was doing a few Tarot readings to get used to the shuffling and such.

I did a few Celtic Crosses but then though I'd start out simpler by doing a 3-card spread: Past, Present, and Future. I was talking to Lindsey and joked around saying she got the Death card as Future. Of course she laughed and jokingly said, "Hey! That's not funny!"

Well I decided to do another reading for a friend whom wasn't seeing eye-to-eye with me at the time (things have improved after that, though       ). As I was mixing up the cards to get reverses, I jokingly said to my friend Lindsey, "Watch her get the Death card as Future!" Being so young, we teenagers love anything with the word "Death" in it. Haha!    Well I then began to shuffle the cards. I was about to 'deal' them out when I just felt strange about it. I can't describe the feeling other than having the urge to shuffle more... and a feeling of awkwardness.

So I sat for a second and decided to shuffle a few more times. Then it felt right and that feeling was gone. I 'dealt' them out face down. I know some people do it face up but I believe that if you see a card you aren't too happy with, it will affect how you read the cards from the beginning, no matter what because you know that one card is coming. So I like to have them face down so each card is a surprise. And this was surely a surprise.

I turned over the Past card; no big deal. Then came the Present; nothing special. But then I got to the Future; the Death card. I sat there silent and then screamed out "OH MY GOD!!! THE DEATH CARD!!!" My friend started laughing and said that I had put it there on purpose. Let me assure you, in no way did I put it there purposely.

It makes me wonder about this situation. It's quite strange, aye? Before the reading I had said, "Watch her get the Death card as Future!" And then when I stopped shuffling, I felt a need to continue, which I did until it felt right. Just being that the Death card showed up in that spot... is strange. It has a one in seventy-eight chance of ending up there. And, trust me, I'm terrible at guessing games. I continuously second-guess myself.

It was only a few hours after I bought my cards... and already I felt like I had made a type of...  hmm... 'connection', if I may. It was either that or some very strange coincidence. I'd love to hear your opinions on this! I thought it was very interesting... strange... absurd... etc.

What is really not a coincidence is that the card showed up in the same position twice. You and your friends must be involved in a sudden transformation or change in the near future. Could this be it?
Also, what were the other cards? Sometimes the past, present, future spread follows a linear train of thought. Like something in the past has led to present events that have an effect on your future!

Hi Mistress Natasha, Welcome to Mystic Board and the wonderful world of Tarot.

I agree with Seadrenea, in many ways, but whats wrong with  the Death card coming up in future? Surely any teen wants change? and teen years are a time of massive change too!

Which deck did you get?

What do you actually think the Death card means then?
Hmm...

I don't remember the other cards since the reading wasn't really serious. It was more a playful thing I was doing for fun, just getting used of the deck since it was my first day. Well I understand that the Death card shows change, the end of something, failure, or possibly the death of yourself or someone you know. It's just that being a teenager and hearing "Death card" is something we like. I don't know why. Haha! It's one of those things. I jokingly said "Watch it show up!" and it did! That's what really struck me... that it shown up after I had said that.

As for my deck, I'm not sure if it has a name. Weird? Yes. It's from a basic beginner's set. The cards are very basic. The Minor Arcana is very plain so you really have to learn what each card means, other than looking at a beautiful, wonderful picture and getting messages from it. The Major Arcana actually has a bit of it's own style which is nice.

Here is some information on the set I bought: http://www.tarotpassages.com/cachet-lb.htm

I really am considering buying another deck though, soon.

Hi again,

You have chosen a hard deck to learn with, the minors are all pips with no pictures. Have you looked at our Learn Tarot course? Its free and fun and will help you have a much better understanding of the cards.

The Death card does not indicate
Quote:
possibly the death of yourself or someone you know
that is a common misinterpretation. Death is far more likely to be predicted by the suit of swords coupled with some majors. Nowadays tarot readers usually work to a strict code of ethics, they do not play or read for fun. A reading can change someone's life and so should only be undertaken with knowledge and responsibility. Please don't think of tarot reading as a game. It should be taken seriously or it can be taken the wrong way and do irrevocable harm.

You will find decks like the Universal Waite much more easy to read.
