Hello, Farafina!
I have been reading your posts these days, although I haven't had much chance to post myself. I am surprised no one gave you a hand with this, yet, so I will tell you what I see.
I have spread your 7 cards before me (Rider-Waite) and I get a general feeling of deep mistrust, specially in your past: all those people seem to be very on the defensive, is that how you have felt towards these friends? The present seems to be about doing things stealthily, without letting others know your true intentions, or feeling you are being treated this way by others.
The first two cards in the future look like the very picture of cyclotimia. Another thing that catches my eye is that you got three of the four nines, so that is surely something to pay attention to. You also got four Spades out of 7 cards, so there must be a lot of thinking in circles going on.
Nines are usually about endings and separations, but also going deeper into things and trying to steer them in a very definite direction.
Your immediate past begins with someone who is a good observer, watchful, able in business matters, a diplomat who can easily see the root of a problem. But who tends to keep away from conflicts rather than confront them, tries to be a watcher of life, rather than an active participant. This could lead to a little paranoia, obsessing with problems because of an inability to solve them, and sometimes a tendency to spy on others.
The 2 of Swords is a precarious balance between rage and fear, emotional tension, trying to keep everything away from us so that we will not be hurt. This defensive stance is so blocking that we are even more prone to blow up or get hysterical. We must remember that sometimes balance and peace can come out of conflict, so we do not need to avoid it on principle.
The 9 of Wands is a way of facing problems very different from that of the page of Swords. The 9 has a lot of skills to see him through times of trouble, skills mastered after many years of facing opposition. But the problem is that we end up living only for the next fight, seeing enemies even when they have surrendered. Continuous fight can leave very deep mental scars.
The 7 of swords tells us that you are maybe thinking of taking impulsive action. You want to do something about this problem, only you might not be going about it the right way. Sometimes action is not called for, specially if what you need right now is care, diplomacy and a little cunning to see you through. Watch that you do not fall in the habit of always hiding your true intentions, though, because it would make you feel isolated and helpless in the long run
The 9 of Cups stands for pleasure, relaxing after a hard job. Being satisfied with results, generous, sociable and happy. Concentrating on ordinary pleasures can be good to avoid continuous worrying about our problems. We just have to watch out for excess and overindulgence.
The 9 of Swords is suffering (together with the 3, these are the 2 cards probably depicting the strongest mental agony), desperate, depressed, feeling let down and a failure. But sometimes this is only because we tend to take the whole world's suffering on our shoulders. So ask yourself: is all this suffering really necessary for your personal evolution? Is there not some easier way? Does it benefit anyone?
The spread ends with a Major, The Hanged Man, who is very sure of what he wants: independent, loves being himself, but is also generous and given to others, disciplined, resigned and confident. He has such a deep connection with life that he can voluntarily sacrifice for an ideal or his beliefs and standards. Always ready to swap material commodities for spiritual growth. On an everyday basis, it also means peace after a difficult experience.
Wow! that was some powerful reading. Actually, it is a bit like a lesson on different ways to face conflict. It probably depicts the differences on outlook between you and those others. Observe that, however strange some attitudes may seem to us, all have a cost in suffering, and most we are unable to control, since they are a very much ingrained part of our personality.
A good meditation for this spread would be to try to picture yourself in each of these attitudes: some will be more familiar, since they must be portraying your own inclinations toward problem solving. Others will seem alien and out of place (those of others). I think the spread is trying to point out that most approaches are flailed, but all we have to defend ourselves with, so we must respect each, as they all have their emotional cost.
Imagine living with the kind of permanent tension portrayed in any of the first 3 cards: would it not be awful? How about being a "serious serial sufferer", like the 9 of Swords? Most of us have gone through most of those attitudes at some time, but some people get stuck in a certain mode and cannot help themselves: how would you like to be like them? I think they deserve a lot of pity and understanding, or as much as we are able to spare them.
There are also those who go through life in a happy-go-lucky way, like our jolly 9 of Cups. He probably suffers less than the others, but people tend to find them too superficial after a while. They are usually unable to face problems in a serious manner, prefering to avoid them at all costs, like the Page.
So, after you have studied all these ways of problem facing (not necessarily problem solving), you will find you are being taught about the Passive Observer (talented but cowardly), the Emotional Fight for Control mode, the Eternal Warrior, the Stealthy Impulsive, the Live-for-Fun and the Woe is Me. As you can readily see, none of these modes will take you very far, but studying them and being able to recognize yourself going into any of these modes is the first step of learning the wise ways of our Hanged Man. So, while life can seem so difficult at times, you are on the right track.
A little summing up: there has been a lot of emotional tension in your environment in the recent past, with people on permanent alert for any possible threat or betrayal (which makes it only the more likely to happen, distrust does).
Seeming a bit fed up with it all, you are in danger of taking rash action: try not to. Take the Hanged Man as an example, breath deeply, contact your inner guides and wait for the right path to open before you. Be patient, everything comes eventually.
In the immediate future you will experience good times and also very bad, probably brought about by all the pent up emotions coming straight down from the 2 of Swords (whenever that card comes up in your readings, be sure to take care of yourself and rest: you are overstressed and easily swept into a crisis if you do not "hang" a little). But at least it seems like the air will be cleared and things will come out that people were keeping hidden as a kind of perceived advantage. Some of those truths may hurt, but better out than festering in.
The way to go is that of our Hanged Man (and I am not talking about suicide

: he is hanging by a foot!). The less you depend on the opinion of others, the better you can listen to your real needs and the happier you can be knowing you are following the path that is right for you. And if others do not like it... well, tell them to go hang by a foot
