Hi Guys,

Ha, found something new?

I want to start this thread seperately because "Fate" is still evading us, "trying to catch a thousand spitting cobras!!!

I stumbled across the Tarocco Siciliano. I found it interesting because this deck, although having 22 Major Arcanum Cards, has two unnumbered Cards, The Fool and The Beggar. or "Miseria, Poverty” and then also the alteration introducing "Constancy" a Sicilian noblewoman  two offensive cards, the Devil and the Devil's HousePoverty, removed.

The order then as follows.

1 - the Bagatto (i Bigotti or i Picciotti)
2 - the Empress
3 - the Emperor
4 - Constancy
5 - Temperance
6 - Fortitude
7 - Justice
8 - Love
9 - the Chariot
10 - the Wheel of Fortune
11 - the Hanged Man
12 - the Old Man
13 - Death
14 - the Ship
15 - the Tower
16 - the Star
17 - the Moon
18 - the Sun
19 - the Globe or Atlas (la Palla, L'Atlante)
20 - Jove

1st Un-Numbered, "Miseria"
Second Un-Numbered, "The Fool"

Some of the features of this pack are characteristics of the southern tarot tradition generally: the virtues are grouped together, Fortitude being featured as a column rather than a lion, Death on horseback, and the , Angel, Jove, Higher than the World. Others are more distinctive: a horseman on the Star card, the woman and sleeping man on the Moon, and a violent scene on the Sun. Atlas as the World is also drastically different.

Numbers four to Seven being the Four virtues, as on another thread which I started, "Prudence", but as seen in the first set of seven.

This is then now where my Question of "Fate" comes to mind.

You can check it out on  http://www.tarothermit.com/siciliano.htm

Blessed be

Hi Guys

Some of the features of this pack are characteristics of the southern tarot tradition generally: the virtues are grouped together, Fortitude being featured as a column rather than a lion, Death on horseback, and the , Angel, Jove, Higher than the World. Others are more distinctive: a horseman on the Star card, the woman and sleeping man on the Moon, and a violent scene on the Sun. Atlas as the World is also drastically different.
Whereas The Lovers (Amoreux) draws attention to the couple pictured on the card, Love (Amore) emphasizing the abstraction or allegory of Love and not really a physical expression.
Fortitude (Fortezza), as contrasted with Strength (Force), is the more usual name for the cardinal virtue, and is associated more with courage than with power.
The Tower, frequently called Fire, also known as Hell or “The house of the Devil”.  The Arrow  refers to the lightning strike that hits the tower; causing a fire inside. The others refer to the building itself, identifying it with Hell. The association with Hell, is linked to the fire inside, this then questions the association. The fire or lightning is usually shown as coming from above, and the scene does not generally appear to be a picture of the underworld. The fire seems more likely to be "fire from Heaven", an agency of divine punishment. The original title was simply Fire, referring to the tongue of flame or bolt of lightning that strikes and, therefore, an agency of divine punishment. The explicitly "infernal" titles of the card may be a somewhat later development, arising from the fact that it immediately follows the Devil in sequence. Therefore the original title simply Fire, referring to the tongue of flame that strikes and destroys the building.
Another theory can be seen in the people falling from the Tower. Being linked to the Devil, we see in the Robin Wood interpretation of the devil, an wilfull  easy way out, perhaps, the only way of escaping the immediate, but being disastrous.
Keeping in mind Constancy as the fourth virtue, the describing words being: (Upright) Faithfulness, Loyalty, Fidelity, Dependability. (Reversed): Unfaithfulness, inconsistency, Fickle-minded.
If we then look at a posting I did earlier regarding the Moon. In the last paragraph my Theory regarding Justice, Strength and adding Temperance, the Tower and Fate?

Quote:
I found something regarding this,

The Moon Card no 18, is made up with 1 Yod=10 and Chet=8, but chet is made up of Vav and Zain, 6 and seven, joined at the top with a thin line. Chet is the letter of life as Vav is the letter of mankind, understanding that God created man on the sixth day. But chet is also the number of Grace. Chet is also the letter representing light.

So althoug chet is 8, strength, the gematria is thirteen, Death. Now look at the repetition of the colums. So on the death card a sunrise sits between the two pillars. Indication to new beginnings?

The word Chai is short for Chaim and the letter Chet is the first letter or the letter that "starts these words". The letter chaim
also reads: "life".

Chet also resembles a doorway where the blood of the lambs was applied to during the first passover. Therefore chet then resembles a doorway to life.

So let's revive this into understandable terms.

Chet then representing a doorway to life, the columns, and the enlightenment received in the Yods decending between the colomns. So symbology regarding the pathway i would think that we can safely assume that it would be going throuh the doorway of life to receive divine enlightenment. Then now if we look at the card Justice, we see that she represents divine justice and not those of man, the Hierophant being the translator of divine instruction. The tower divine intervention.

Hi Payewacker

Interesting deck, I must say. I dont like the 'miseria' theme or the card though; it just brings some bad vibes to me. As the word in the Greek language means the same as in most latin languages......misery, misfortune... Wouldnt we all dread getting that card in our readings as we do of the Tower?

On a more serious note, though, I've been thinking about these different decks and the pictures/thoughts/insights depicted in them... hmmmmm... one wonders if one person's reading may vary from one deck to the other? After all, we get inspired by what we see within the pictures and some of the decks I have seen depict differently in their presentation of the same card as in another deck.

Food for thought perhaps?

Yep cedars, thats why I am alwasy saying which deck is the reading from lol. Sometimes the meanings depend on the creator or artists view of the card's meaning and are totally different from the RW or Thoth.

Glad you answered Gem,
So far (each to his/her own) I feel most comfortable with the RW original deck and I will stick to it until I am attracted to another deck.
thanks Gem. You did confirm my long-time thoughts about different decks.
