Hi Little bird, why don't you do our Tarot Course here on Mystic Board? Its fun and free, although at the moment rather quiet till the new year, but the lessons are all still there and you can join in?

The way you are using the cards at the moment is perfectly natural for anyone starting out on their tarot journey. Do be careful of what you say though as you can quite inadvertantly affect the seeker's life by what you say.

The Ten of Cups.... hmmmm, that all depends on which deck you were using, different decks have different energies and meanings, However the Rider Waite 10 of Cups is discussed in these threads
Which deck was it you used and maybe I can shed more light?

When you're just starting it is always nice to have someone as a sounding board to know if you're on the right track or not. I will admit that I probably read a great deal differently then most people on this board do but learning the basic keywords/phrases will help you when you draw a card. I would suggest reading but unfortunately it would confuse you more then do you some good BECAUSE everyone seems to say something different in every book! I'm self-taught, so this is first hand knowledge. So you may wanna check out that course. (Thinking I might too   )

As to the Ten of Cups, generally about happiness and family. Togetherness, richness and pleasure of family. From that one card you both seem to be thinking on the same lines...but you're going to need to do more then one card to get a complete picture of it. While you may both be thinking happily ever after, the reality may be that you're not good for each. (Not to say that is the case, of course).

One card readings have never been my favorite things...so sorry if it doesn't help much.

I remember being a beginner...all that I had was a deck and an urge to do a reading, lol. I fully believe thats all u really need to begin. Course, having a book on the deck youre using helps alot. What I did, instinctively, and will always do, is just look at the card and let what I see tell me about that person or their life. It is the very basis of divination, I think. Everything else is secondary. Let the pictures grab you and DO NOT BE AFRAID to say what you feel applies, your immpressions. Even if you think they sound silly. You would be amazed. Anyway, thats my advice to beginners.  Oh, and I find that if you let the person youre reading put some of their energy into the deck when youre done shuffling, via, say, tapping the cards while youre holding them (with their question in mind while they tap) it helps. Good luck!  Hope I could help...
