yes its important to know how you will read the cards and in what order before you start your readings. it can be in any order that you choose but you have to know what that is before reading and during the reading. the cards need to know where to fall to give the correct meaning.

I recently asked what are my strengths and turned just two cards The magician came first followed by the hierophant now trying to see how they relate to my question I have an idea but to me they seem opposite in character

Which deck were you using? And were you using only the majors?
