Hi,
I personally and have encountered quite a few others that do not use reverse meanings, which maybe why you're finding trouble seeing them in books. (I did too when I first started reading tarot). This may sound really really lame, and it probably is, but have you tried
The Idiots Guide to Tarot? That book goes into detail about reversed meanings.
Also, if you're feeling inclined to negative attributes to cards, but don't want to mess your cards around, there's a trick I'ved learned from working with the Crowley decks. Let's say you've got the three of cups with the ten of pentacles (disks or coins depending) on one side and the Ace of Wands/Rods/Staves on the other, right? Well, because those two other elements oppose or don't work well with water, then the Ace of Cups, instead of meaning, "love, healing, emotional bliss," or however you understand the card, may mean the opposite.
...Er... I think water and earth don't work well or is it air and water... *bangs noggin" It's too early, and I've just begun to drink my coffee. ...Talk about first impressions, eh?
