This seems pretty weird to me, when using the free software and manually choosing major or minor or both cards for any question I try to concentrate and let my feeling choose the card, I look at the cards and my head moves away from the whole computer screen. It happens every time I try it!

My personal experience is to actually handle the cards being better than choosing from a computer, i'm not going to say it wont work, it might very well work for you and you are most definetely guided by your intuition.

Another reason would be your spiritual influence on the cards itself. actually, I find it rewarding to shuffle and handle my cards. What I also do in may instances is to leave the cards in the spread on my table. This resulted in the interpritation of some influences maybe a day or two later.

I normally give a quick overview to the client and then start scratching around. I normally find additional information comming to me especially at night or first thing in the morning.
