How does one know what was really meant by the originators of tarot?  I read a book that was written by Waite about his tarot and he said the original cards were basically no more than a card game, like... Old Maid. Can you imagine, someone 50 to 100 years from now, finding a deck of Old Maid cards and using them to tell other people what to go do with their life?  OMG. Is that what we are doing?

I think not-- my personal belief and it is only mine as i was not around when Tarot cards came about

I believe that people read the the stars in the night sky-- named the constellations (the stars that reappeared giving the same picture form) then applied the constellation  meaning to what was going on at the time. then this became cave/Tomb writings in picture form along with symbols, this knowledge transferred to cards when some knowledgeable person saw the potential in the drawings ( a picture can say a thousand words) although i can still see how this became just a card game the pictures would lose there meaning in the hands of someone who didn't understand the imagery
But who's to say my theory is right certainly not the person who thought up the tarot--I wish you good look in finding out

Personally I could read from an Old Maid set lol! Tea leaves, sheeps droppings, or even sticks and leaves, birds flying, feathers, water bowls, shadows, clouds, etc etc etc.

So why would one think not?

Have you researched the history of the tarot? It is fascinating.

Many taroists are split between Waite and Crowley depending on their beliefs and likes. Some of the olders decks have an even deeper insight of design and artistic work.

Now I am off to find the kids Old Maid set hmm and I might try a few of their other card sets too and let you know what I find out

Who wants a try?

I would never, never 'tell other people what to go do with their life'. That is against my own personal ethics of reading. I empower clients that come to me, I give them guidance and suggestions from the cards, I would never presume to know better than they do about their life. They might be seeking answers or the truth and the cards will show them where to look, what areas to concentrate on and perhaps give them tools to arm themeselves with so they can have a happier life. But tell a client what to do? No definately not. We are not god, we are tarot readers.
