I would like some idea's on the best tarot book for beginners.  I have been interested in tarot for years.  I tried many years ago but gave up to quickly.  I just bought new tarot cards and really want to learn.  Any advice will be greatful!

Hi Tina,

I wouldn't suggest any book!.  You may find that surprising but depending on which deck you have I can suggest a few routes to easy learning.

Have you joined our Tarot Class yet? Its free, simple and great fun and no need to memorise anything,

Tina

i've read "Understanding the Cards Of Destiny Reading The Tarot" by leo Louis Martello and enjoy the book a lot.  goddess and god only knows if it is still in print though.  i bought it back in 2005 off the clareance table.  Under each card it shows topics like, Description, Meaning, Rhymed Message and Combinations. about the only thing i didn't like was for the Devil he left the page blank and didn't comment on it.

now, up until Gem took over our Tarot Lessons i tend to desagreeing with not using a book.  actuaslly that was a whole new concept that i didn't understand. why wouldn't i use my book?  her class and method has given me hope that i could actually read the cards without grabbing my book at every turn of a card because it was getting to be a little overwhelmed trying to memorize every single detal from the book.  you'll learn to use your intuition and you have your own feelings and meanings for the cards.
my last several readings i've haven't even touch my book to do the readings. i'm even at a point that i don't feel the need to grab my book becuase i'm trusting myself to what the cards are saying to me.
although get a book and read it, read it several times, your subconscience will retain what you've read and what is close to you will remember more and overall its an experience in your life that mayl help you focus on your readings and maybe add some richness to them with langauge (poetry) of the cards.  just the other day i thought i'm going to reread my book again just to refresh my memory on some of the history and some of the meanings because it helps me to understand what i am doing.  because i love my book and the poertry of it.  i know reading it and now taking the class with Gem has add to understanding and a deep knowledge of what i am doing.  i personally learn better that way having something tangible but still learning to trust my self for readings and grabbing a book in front of the querent (right now as a student).

but Gem is right you can learn the Tarot without picking up a book!

overall try what works for you and jump all in with it and you will succeed!

Ya know what?  I could've written "Ask George about his tarot books lol"  But what a brilliant answer, I am so glad that my efforts are turning out to be worthwhile Thanks George.

And in many ways I suppose it could be argued that perhaps I am the book? Or a book substitute?

Tina I forgot to ask which deck did you get.. cos many books are specific to one deck..

Actually your more important then a book!  a book you get to read of others people experiences but you, a live person, can interact and give feedback.  its just really to bad the whole class couldn't get together in one room and hold a class!
