While I was going through the posts I noticed that George drew 9 cards in a reading to represent 3 separate positions. How does one synthesize and combine the meaning of 3 cards for a single position or a single message? Please forgive me if this sounds too ignorant.

Hugs

i can tell you what i am doing.  I'm just telling a story with many aspects and meaning that are coming from the cards.  for instance i draw three cards and see what we come up with it.

in the past:
i drew the IX of swords.  This is a women (mostly like a man) is sitting up in bed with face in hand with 9 swords on side of her.  on top of her is the Queen of Wands and on top of her is The Hierophant a pope sitting with two monks in attenance.

my story would start out like you (the querent) is worried or not sleepinig right because of a women that is troubling her.  and because of the Hierophant (organized religion).  Maybe a women in your church is troubling you and your having a hard time sleeping or just it weighs heavly on your mind.  of course it all depends on what the querent has ask of your during their reading as you read them.

now in the present position i drew The High Preistess, the Queen of Cups, and the Chariot.  I would most likly say that because of the past you now are feeling like secrets are being made behind your back because the High preistess sits with the Torah in her lab and part of it is hidden.  With the Queen of Cups on top of her i might say that you are studying this problem closly because the Queen of Cups is studying her Cup that she holds in her hands.  Now becuase the Chariot is on top of the Queen of Cups I might say a man might enter or has enter into the picture and might steer you into the right direction in handling this problem. because in the future cards i drew the IX of cups. a man sits with 9 cups sitting on a table above his head.  I wuld say because of the present your path is leading towards fulfilment because the nine cups are filling your need meaning that something like water which is life, spirtualism and so forth is feeling your head and the man in the present has stirred you into this future position.  The Empreror was the next card in the future position on top of the IX of cups and i would easily say that your minister in your church is the man that has help with the problem although because he was drew reverse it might not have been what you wanted but still a soultion will occur because of him.  that last card in the future position ws the IV Sowrds.  there is a knight laying on a coffin or table i wuldn't go into all that but say something lilke yoru mind is now at rest not as your would like but at least most of your trouble is under you and others might follow just because there is sword under him and three above him.
the conclusion is that your trouble with this lady in past is coming to an end but you still may was other troubles in the future.

i just telling a story about what i see in the cards and adding them together to tell a full story.  if you notice in Tarot Homework our last lesson on 5s and now 6s Gem is having us make up story on each card and i woudl guess that is to get us all use to telling the storys and adding them together as we read.  one card to two cards and so forth this little skill will take your far.  i just recently start drawing 4 cards per position (12 total) and that is working out for me as i begin to understand more of what i am doing!

i hope this helps and if you have any more question please ask!

A slight twist on your spread that you might like to try George....

I see you use the full deck of 78... try splitting out the majors and pulling one card each for past present and future so each position has a major at the head, then pull 1,2,3, or more from the minors for clarification on each position.

The beauty of this spread is that each position has a main subject and force ( major)  and then asking the minors for more detail means that you can never go blank you just keep pulling minors till you get the picture and the spread looks pretty fantastic in readings

See what you think.

intriguing    i've read that some people just use the majors and nothing else which just sound to confined to me but this sounds like fun.  i literaly just did a a reading that had for the past Judgement as the first card and last card was Death.  it really focused and rounded off the past nicely.  so i can now easily see the Major at top being defined by the minors!     i will most likly do a live readings later on today.  Had a house full yesterday and a friend stay the night so we will have to take him home and might do readings at his house then off to my better halfs mothers house to help clean and move a washer so i know i will read for her for sure so i will try it for sure!
oh, btw, GOOD MORING, i'm hoping today was good as yesterday!

I often do Major arcana readings only, in fact some decks only have the 22 majors lol!

Try it, it is great for giving insight with a few cards or when time is of the essence,

Don't work too hard George, you are doing brilliantly, just make sure you rest aswell Have a great day xxxxx
