Absolutely not, some people use regular playing cards. The cards are just a tool, you are the key to divining. That is why there are so many different ways to accomplish this task of divination. Use what works for you regardless of the size shape or color. I think if your intuition was strong enough you could read feathers if you wanted too. I just think that tarot cards are easier because the pictures give your conscious mind a clue to what your unconscious mind and the universe is trying to tell you. It's all up to you ;)
