One method would be to assign the four different seasons to the four suits.
For most people Wands are for the Summer (heat <g>), Swords for autumn (air) , Pentacles for Winter (earth) and Cups for Spring (water).
Then we have Ace of Wands for the first week, Two of Wands for the second one etc. The King of each suit is for the end of the season, the last two three days. or, to some, for the centre of the season.
As to the Majors, they can represent longer periods of one's life. (beginning from being a baby to being a crone) but generally represent fatal events that cannot be controlled, thus, no time frame can be applied here.
If the cards are reversed there is delay, which means you will not start counting from this season <g>.
To some others every card drawn siginifies what should happen first, what lesson should be attained or what obsracle should be surmounted in order to achieve one's goal/ fulfil one's wish.
To others the two active suits (Wands, Swords) talk about the immediate future (one of them for days, the other one for weeks), whereas the two 'passive' suits talk about longer periods that have to pass (months/ years).
This means that if you have the seven of Wands for example it could mean seven days.
I do not especially favor this method, although it seems that the reader's intent and belief in his/her system is very important.
