I would like to know if anyone has lost friends because of their religion. You see i have a friend of mine on yahoo that was totally blasted for having a friendship with a witch (me). They harrassed her and tried to "convert" her. She herself is agnostic to a point, but believes totally in freedom of religion. She lives half a world away from me in Australia. I live on the East Coast in the US. She has been my wonderful friend for over 6 yrs and even though we have not physically met, emotionally and spiritually we have connected. I know that sounds weird but it makes sense to us. Anyways, i have not lost her friendship, if anything it has strengthened ours, but she has lost friends due to her association and friendship with me. i would like some input in this as i've never encountered it before.

I think most of the regulars here in the forum never would have lost a friend due to Religion or beliefs.

This I build on the fact that they are very open minded and have a greater view on thing and are willing to explore.

It's sad to say that only strong believers in Religion are those who repel other people with other believes then theme-self...quiet opposite of what the Religion tell itself.

No i have never lost a friend through religious differences.  I can't talk for the whole country but we are not really obsessed with the religion thing here except when rangers play celtic.  The village where i live has population of over 9000, only 30 people in this village attend church and all of these church goers are over 70.  the minister here is so rushed of her feet that she performed one wedding in the last 5 years and averages 5/6 funerals a year.  She is also the minster of 2 other parishes.

So most people here couldn't give a stuff what you believe in. As long as your not out butchering virgins and chasing the sheep we are all happy lol.

I am sad that has happened to your friend, I am really glad you are there for her.  I have had some of my internet friendships for many many years and would be distraught it others interfered.

I`m very sorry it happened to your friend, but I really dont see why she should waste her time crying over people like that. True friends will never turn their backs upon you just because their religious believes are different to yours or to someone around you. if they want to leave let them go and cherish those who stays with you no matter what.

I have actually gained friends through being a witch!!

For quite a few years I had few friends - no one you could call a 'true' friend (y'know the sort - they'd be nice to your face and bitch behind your back) I went through a very tough time in my life and those I called friends deserted me at my time of need so I turned my back on friendships a bit. I then began to run a ferret rescue. A lady from Chester contacted me asking me to take in some ferrets. I went to collect them only to find that she was a witch too!! We struck up a really good friendship and now I class her more like the sister I never had!!

I started my ferret board (as many ferret boards are extremely unfriendly places to visit so I wanted a place where people didn't 'bitch' about one another!!) and one by one found that quite a few members were also interested in the wiccany side of life - so we added a wiccan section (called the 'Wiccan Weasle'). I now have several really good friends - friends you can confide in when you are feeling at your lowest ebb.

So I am glad that I became a witch and found new friends through it. I truly believe that certain peole attract to one another spiritually!!
