Would you agree that in many ways the symbolism – changing, evolving, obscured, redesigned or rejected- represents the struggles and victories of the time and make Tarot artists custodians of human stories in their symbolic representations of the collective subconscious. What was society agreeing to when it accepted the removal of the Pope and Popess replacing these with the Hierophant and the High Priestess noting that previously also the Greek gods were represented on the cards but that it is said that these cards did not constitute the 78 -card Tarot. Apparently the cards used in Islamic Al Andulas before playing cards appeared in Christian Europe were also not the 78-card Tarot. What was it that propelled society to produce the 78-card Tarot and to use religious and political symbolism in it together with the other elements core to the human condition? What is our responsibility in this?
