Rune Casting


This is not like fortune telling...

It depends a lot on the intuitive powers of the runecaster. The person should face the north and not be disturbed. The runes are kept in a bag.

They will be cast on a white clean cloth. Mix the runes and take out from the bag and lay it upside down.

Find a suitable place to do the reading. You do not want to be disturbed. Try to sit facing North if possible, the direction of the Gods in Norse mythology. Place a small white cloth on the surface in front of you. You work with the runes on this cloth. This cloth protects them from getting dirty and also forms the boundary for the casting.

With the focus on the word try, I take it as important, not critical.  Also, I suspect that the direction is less important than the effort to connect with the Norse pantheon.  I have notices that some sources, say Wiccan authors or Celt authors, try and impose their systems on the Norse.  The problem with that is that the runes (Elder Futhark, Anglo-Saxon) are from the Germanics, not the Celts and not a semi-modern discipline as Wicca.  The Norse certainly knew were north was (as sailors in the age of the Viking they were unparalled mariners) but it does not enter into their beliefs as much as it does Celtic and Wicca.
