Rune Inscriptions

The rune alphabet is not a written language but each letter also has a magical power behind it. The very idea of writing something in runes is a spell itself.
The earliest known inscriptions date from the 1st century AD, but most of them found are from the 11th century. Runic inscriptions have been found throughout Europe from the Balkans to Germany, Scandinavia and the British Isles.

There are different types of inscriptions:

1. 'was here' kind of writings on walls, cliffs etc.
2. grave stone inscriptions
3. magic spells curses and charms
4. trade and political messages
5. love letters
6. rude messages or graffiti
7. signatures by artisans and craftsmen
