Hi,

I sent this query to Gem but I may have misdirected it. Can you help?

Do you have any recommendations for creating a crystal rune set. I have several crystals, but no matching sizes...
Do you know if that would matter?
Can they be used?

I would prefer that sizes matches, but that is not a requirement, just a recommendation.  As far as different crystals, it probably makes sense to use the same crystal material (e.g. citrine, amethyst) otherwise different crystals will send different signals to the runecaster and that may mess up rune selction. If all the runes are the same crystal material, then there is no harmonic bias or preference of one over another, and they would be fine to use.
What about using

Semi-precious stones such as Haematite or Lapis Lazuli?

Hi Kiwimac,

Welcome to Mystic Board

Personally I wouldn't recommend Lapis Lazuli because of its hardness, or rather softness. 5-5.5.  It all depends on the quality of the stone and the chemical makeup, Hematite too can be hard to find natural pieces that are suitable, most 'Hematite' rune sets are in fact Hematine, or melted and reformed iron ore.  Best to stick to the harder quartzes

Or course, the problem then is the hardness of the stone & working safely with it. Perhaps wood would be best, any objection to using Oak or Birch?
