Hi Cedars and Cristal, just wanted to add a bit to the above.
I agree with Cristal in that it's great to get as many people attuned to Reiki as possible. However (as a traditional-minded Taurean!) I still like the idea of personal attunement because: (1) through the touch and presence of the Master you have the direct physical/spiritual link to Usui himself and other members of the Reiki hierarchy (at least, that's how I understand it

) and (2) I would think that, putting aside for a moment the lack of a Master's presence, the act of attunement through the Internet involves all matter of disruption by electro magnetic fields and the cross-currents of other users. I'm thinking here of the sort of sensation wou get when standing underneath a pylon in the rain: fizzing and crackling etc. Not sure how to explain that as I'm no scientist but hope you get my drift! Surely it's more of a 'virtual' attunement that way - more two-dimensional? I have known one or two people who have tried it and said it hasn't really worked - but maybe that's because they haven't invested much effort, so get relatively little return. Also, what about these people who claim to attune you from nothing to Level 3 in a weekend? Could your consciousness cope with that level of intensity really?
I do know a fair number of people who have been attuned to Level 2 but who hardly ever use Reiki either on themselves or anyone else. I think that's a great pity. From what I know, the majority of these have been traditionally attuned and done all the work, but apathy has taken over.
I do a reasonable amount of Reiki practice, although rarely for money. A lot of it's swapping one therapy for another - but that's a lot of fun anyway! I do think the important thing is to keep the Reiki flowing and go to Reiki shares whenever I can. I do prefer to touch, especially around the head, although it can be more appropriate at times to keep your hands a few inches away especially around the solar plexus. I find that the energy from there often acts like a reverse polarity magnet anyway.
I find that charging a small polished rose quartz crystal with Reiki for a couple of minutes and then handing it to people who are a bit sceptical about Reiki often serves as a good introduction!
Hope I've not gone on too long but it's great to exchange ideas.
Blessings and Hugs x
