Cookie,
Can I safely assume that you intended to say that your missing puppy had lost most of its hair, leaving its bare pink skin showing through?
If the dog is in such a poor condition as you suggest, then it is hardly likely to be attractive to people who would steal it to breed or make money from.
My only advice would be to check with your local dog control authority ASAP in order to determine whether your pet has been picked up from the street, or has been brought into them by another member of the public.
This would of course be in addition to putting up the usual notices around the district to alert anyone that your much loved puppy is missing and to provide them with contact details to speed up Mercede's safe return to her owner.
If she has lost a lot of hair, she would not be good material for another family to adopt her, unless they are one of those special individuals (God bless them) who get great satisfaction and enjoyment from rehabilitating sick lost animals whose owners have not claimed them back into a picture of good health.
If Mercedes is in their loving care, she will effectively be in a state of doggy heaven, while still on Earth.
I am sadly not getting any particularly strong impressions with reference to helping you to locate Mercedes intuitively or psychically, but I am I must admit still somewhat suspicious of your mother's ex boyfriend's dubious claim that he just dropped her by the side of the street, and then took off without her.
I find it difficult to believe that he would be so intentionally cruel towards the animal, to be able to get revenge on your mother over their argument. But I could be wrong about this, so please do not treat my preliminary impressions about him as being an absolute guarantee that he has lied to you.
I feel that it is much more likely that he either took her to the local dog pound or even may have taken her with him, but without being able to directly read his thoughts and intentions by means of a third party reading which is not allowed on this site, I am currently forced to give him the benefit of the doubt that he actually did exactly what he said he had done with your dog.
Sorry if that is not particularly helpful or comforting to you, as I can clearly feel how much you really love and care for your dog, and I sincerely hope that she will be safely returned to you in no worse condition than when she was taken, as soon as is possible.
It is definitely too early to prematurely give up on ever finding her. One of the parrots which we kept as a family pet when I was still a teenager (ancient history I know) was returned to us by a person who evidently kept all their newspapers reaching that far back, six months almost to the day after our pet flew off, looking more healthy than on the day which we lost him.
You just never know what kind person could come to your dog's rescue when all hope seems lost. If your mother can afford to offer a small cash reward to encourage people to take the extra trouble of contacting you about your beloved pooch whom you quite rightly treat as you would any other loved member of your family, this might just do the trick.
Hoping that this effort by me has in some small way helped you to be more optimistic about the possibility of you eventually finding Mercedes.
Be sure to keep us posted under this thread, concerning any good news which you may get about your pet during the coming months.
