Ummm I don't even know where to start except to say I'm feeling really dissapointed and frustrated about my currrent job situation. I'm not looking for a career since I'm still in college, but I feel like I've been bending over backwards feeling out applications just to get my hopes up for nothing which really hurts ='[

I don't know what I'm doing wrong cause I'm not being picky, ppl just aren't calling me back. And I had so much planned that I wanted to do once I found a job since everything requires money, and now I just feel like all my plans are ruined =[ So I was wondering could someone please give me some guidance on this area of my life, I'm just about at my wits end and ready to just call it quits.

Hi Beautiful, welcome to the forum

I can understand that you feel frustrated because of the lack of rsponse to so many applications. Please don't get so despondent though, it is still very early days. There are so many young people looking for work right now with the summer season that there are just too many applicants and too few jobs. Before I look into your reading I feel intuitively that you may not be making the best of your attributes on your cv and letter of application. Do you have any help filling in the forms or about your to represent yourself to the job market?

Whether the job is part time and casual or a full blown career the same basic standards and rules apply. Perhaps you are treating these little jobs with a bit less respect and perhaps this comes over in your letter? Do you ever ring the employer to follow up your application, to check it was received etc? Do you research the role and what they exactly want and what you can offer over and above anyone else to prove they should choose you?

You have several angel messages today, first we have the Angel that inspires Integrity, she is always a good friend to take on any job interview and also to have on your shoulder whilst repling to any ads. This angel reminds us that we are all responsible for our actions and that we must be truthful and honest and never lie or falsify facts. This angel also has a special message that perhaps so far the employers you have approached may be acting with a little less integrity than you need?
How are you choosing which ones you reply to? You need to be more picky and try for a few harder roles rather than the basic.

Next we have a Vision, a picture of your future. Have you decided where you want to be in say 5 years time or 10? Instead of planning what you will do with any small wage you get now please take a moment and look at the bigger picture. Obviously being still in college means you have lots of opportunitires still ahead of you , and many decisions to make. But, choosing a career or a vocation now may mean that you can actually help youself towards that vision now. Why plough time into a job that you do not care about now, when you may be able to find one that you love and want to do. Becasue sometimes if we are not bothered about a job that comes across and is all the prospective employer will see in an interview or by reading between the lines of an application.

You have a lot of tender feelings about these non-responses, in fact you feel like they are rejecting you out of hand without even seeing you. Well perhaps you might get prepared and have a cv ready and stroll up and hand in your cv personally and then see if they will accept an appointment with you for an interview. Perhaps just getting out there may help you stand out a bit more?

There are many creative ways to get a job that pays well. Sometimes it means more than just replying to or ringing up adverts. You need to get the prospective employer to respect you and trust you and vice versa.

The main thing is not to get disheartened or take things personally. Stay positive, rush out and buy the newspaper the second it is on sale, try onoline job seekers too.

You will find a job you like!

Yea I kinda wanted to find a simple job for the summer b/c once school starts back depending on how hard my classes are I won't be able to work as much or at all with the way things are looking. And at first I was calling them back, but that just seemed like it wasn't doing any good to be honest. When I would get the chance to turn applications in they would say they were hiring or online it would say that, but when I called them back it was always a different story, which just left me like what? So yea that wasn't much fun.

And for the most part I do have help with filling out the applications. I actually though I was doing a good job =p I honestly don't know what else I could put on there before I have to start making things up lol. But I'm not trying to do that haha.

Yes I can definitely relate to the angel message, and no I don't think they've been acting with much integrity =/

Yes I actually do have an idea on where I want to be 5 years from now. And if I could make college go by faster and get the degree in what I'm gonna be doing I would definitely be doing that because this job hunting process is ridiculous =[ But I do need some time of job in the meanwhile since I have no degree yet and asking my parents for money is annoying.

And yea a part of me does feel a bit bitter about it because it's not like they have a good reason. Just this past Monday I went to an open interview at this store and the line there was ridiculous. Not to mention majority of the people in the line weren't even dressed for an interview besides a handful of ppl and myself. It honestly looked like they were walking by, saw the store was having an open interview and just got in line. So I was the second to last person, waited a good 3 hours just to not even get a real interview in my opinion. So yea I'm just a tad bit upset.

Hi Bliss,

Pardon me for possibly being seen as interfering in Cassie's reading for you, but if you do have a good idea as to where you would like to be in five years time from now, then you are already I feel head and shoulders above and well in front of most people of your own age group.

All the more power or control over your own life to live as you best see fit to do so.

Now that you have a goal or goals to work towards during the next five years (the reading only covers the next six months), the challenge is for you (which you are more than adequate of overcoming) to work out how to most quickly, safely and reliably make the journey between where you currently find yourself in the present moment, and where you want to be located in 2016.

This particular reading on this particular subject will only get you to around the middle of January 2012.

But of course readings about a completely different or seemingly unrelated subject are quite OK in the mean time (with a minimum of one month between consecutive requests).

Oh Beautiful, that can be so soul destroying. I know from when my own teenagers applied for jobs the stress of the whole process and then to feel that you weren't even given a fair chance is upsetting. I wish I could wave my magic wand and have a job appear, if only it were that simple?

Today I can see that same angel standing with her arms folded tapping her foot in frustration! it sounds like you are doing everything right, and honesty is the best way to go in any cv too. So do you think that qualifications in these summer jobs comes into it? I know it all depends on the job really. It sounds like a matter of timing is a big factor, those that get there first?

Maybe you should relax a little on the job seeking and see if instead you can get a head start on your studies? That may be possible depending on the course. And then perhaps you might offer to do extra jobs round the house or for neighbours to get some cash? We used to wash cars and mow lawns and things and it soon added up.
