Bloggs,
You are very welcome and your delayed response was definitely worth my waiting for. Your kind words and useful feedback were much appreciated by this humble reader. Your questions also demonstrate a deep level of thought which is a credit to you.
You asked.....

No, do not ever give up completely and release all hope that it will eventually happen, but have backup plans A, B and if necessary C close at hand, just in case it takes longer than you expected that it might.
Also do not put the rest of your life on indefinite hold in the meantime.
Although it often seems easier in the short term to accept that it will always be this way and that therefore there is no valid reason to hold on to your hope any longer, total surrender and becoming life's victim is not an option for a survivor like yourself.
Even though you may lose one or two battles in your life now and then, the overall war has not been lost until you are no longer willing to get up after having just fallen flat on your face yet again, and try that one more time.
The last year might have felt to you to be like an eternity, but looking down from the higher perspective of one or many lifetimes, it is only like a millisecond.
Clearly the apparent speed to you of the passing of psychological and chronological time can seem very different from each other, and from person to person.
This is always easier said than done, because you are the only person in this world and in your life who can do it. I can only at best encourage and support you in your ongoing efforts.
From an optimist but also a realist,
EoT
