I'm so depressed, i can't explain why/ how/ what makes me so depressed. i honestly dont know what exactly is the problem, or if i created it myself or if its karma. all i know is my love life, my career, everything...has not moved forward in so many years. i feel stuck. i feel i have missed all opportunities, i feel i have realized all this too late, i feel i can't do anything about it. i don't know how to proceed, i don't know how to move forward, i can't see the way, i dont find any opportunity....
may i have a general reading please.

Welcome weary traveler!

Firstly to my usual disclaimer.

Depression has sometimes been called the "common cold of the mind" in that it is found in so many people at one time that it almost seems to be a normal part of the human condition. But two big differences between depression and the common cold are that it can under some conditions effectively last for years on end plus depression can kill first your spirit eventually to be followed by your body.

Before I being this reading, I wish to strongly urge you to immediately seek professional advice and appropriate treatment if you have not already done so from a qualified doctor of the mind, as depression of the type you are describing is not something to be taken lightly or ignored.

If you are already taking a prescribed medication as part of your existing medical treatment and the symptoms suddenly became significantly worse just after your doctor changed either the dose or drug, see him or her without further delay as many antidepressants have as their main side effect deeper depression and persistent thoughts of self harm and taking ones life where it was never previously thought about.

Now back to your reading as requested. One of the most common errors made by people who currently feel depressed is based on the belief that the depression can only be lifted, once it has been fully determined why the patient became depressed in the first place.

As a person who has struggled with chronic depression and anxiety most of my nearly 57 years, I now see that this belief can easily become one of the main barriers to our recovery. When we are feeling as though we have missed out on all life's opportunities or that we have somehow unintentionally brought this largely on ourselves, this is precisely NOT the time to be analyzing where or when this might have started.

When we are increasingly depressed, the part of our mind which deals in logic and reason (which is the part which we need in order to effectively analyze something) is seriously but temporarily out of action. With this part of our mind temporarily disabled, we begin to tell ourselves what basically amounts to total nonsense, that if we had only been able to test these beliefs in the cold light of reality we would have very soon seen them as such (rubbish).

Your reading is therefore asking you to essentially forget for the moment about analyzing why you feel this way (leave that to your doctor to deal with, until you are yourself getting much better) and force yourself to get moving again and to do something to help yourself (even though you could not feel any less willing to want to do anything at this stage). A good start would be to get out of bed, get dressed and make yourself a good cup of tea or coffee according to your preferences, and have a healthy meal to start your day.

One of the laws of physics is that it takes much more energy to get a body moving, than it does to make fine adjustments to its motion once it does. So your biggest task is to get yourself moving and vertical again. Start with something simple and relatively undemanding at first, then you will often find that once you have accomplished what others may view as trivial (but you may instead see as a major victory), you will gradually find that your self confidence and ability to perform even more advanced tasks grows exponentially.

The next important way of helping yourself is to spend at least a couple of hours each day helping someone else. Often although our own problems are not going to magically go away by themselves in the meantime, focusing on someone else's for a part of each day has the added bonus outside of the good feelings it generates within us weakens the power of our negative thoughts to keep us depressed. For depression is a self defense mechanism of the mind to what we see as adverse circumstances, although sorry for my English but as an effective long term defense or coping strategy, becoming depressed STINKS big time!   IMHO

Now that you are making major inroads into putting the monster back in its box, this is the time where your doctor can really start helping you, by showing you ways of challenging the thoughts you are having, and testing them. Let us as one example look at only one of the things you said in your request, and let us challenge it with the intention to see whether it is based in reality.

Feeling stuck and actually being stuck are surely two very different things. I am not going to insult your intelligence by saying that I do not believe what you are telling me - you feel stuck. But remember that when we are depressed, we cannot unfortunately trust that what our thoughts and feelings are seeming to be telling us even barely resemble the truth.

So your reading is saying that now that you are not so depressed as before, have you really not moved forward with your life during those 29 years in any of the areas you mentioned. or is it instead a case that you have no idea of what to expect so that if what was meant to happen does happen, you would not know it. I am certainly not saying that I feel that you are for some reason destined to keep going like this indefinitely or at least for your remaining years (of which there are still so many), or that any of this is your fault as such. But I am questioning on your behalf the fact that you are claiming you have made no progress in all that time.

The simple fact that you are already 29 years of age and are still reaching out for help wherever it is available in spite of what might or might not have happened to you in the past is to me a major sign of you making significant progress. A lesser person might have already thrown in the towel, but you kept going. Why was that? I believe that within you as with each of us your true inner Self is wanting to more fully experience this thing we call life through our personality, and to express itself increasingly as time moves on.

In other words, if we could somehow get back in contact with our true inner spiritual nature, our outer lives would I feel go much more smoothly, although never without the challenges which have been put into place for the purpose of helping us to better understand our true nature and to make us stronger. What does not kill us will only make us that much stronger. Since you are still presumably here with us then your depression has miserably failed in its vain attempts to keep a good person down for longer than necessary.

The main message of your reading is that although your life may not have gone exactly as you expected or hoped it might, that your Creator can and is very willing to use what your life has become to make you whole (or heal you) as both a spiritual and human being. The only question I feel you need to answer to yourself now is to whether or not you are equally willing to work with your doctor, yourself, the many new friends which you have including myself on these MB forums, as well as your family and close friends with the same healing process in mind.

I believe that there is every good reason for you to start thinking that these thoughts of depression have passed their effective shelf life, and that that they are consequently seriously limited in the days which they still have left. While your future as definitely looking up and new and exciting opportunities wait for you, if you will only use the insights provided to you through this reading, with the assistance of many helpers to make your path to self healing that much less traumatic compared to what it has been up until fairly recently.

Love, Light and Healing,
