I started a new job and it pays about half of what my previous job paid, but I took the position in hopes of opportunity.  After @ 2 weeks I took on a whole new position, which releaved my boss of a large responsibility outside of the office.  I love my job, meeting people and being creative.  I am still learning the business and learning to communicate and work with my boss (the owner of the business).  He is a little quirky...he likes to put his hands up in the air and say things like "this is the first I've heard of it" or just give a look like "Duh".  He hates to be interupted and will let anyone know right away.  But I always think many people like to interject during a conversation.  He said he doesn't understand my text messages...but you can only get so much in a text message and everyone uses short abbreviations or replacement words that get the point across  (like B 4 U get the check, call me).  I would like some insight into his personality or way of thinking in order to meet his expectations and succeed.  THere are 2 other new employees that also  have taken on some of his responsiblities (and others...his wife's responsibilities).  I don't know if he is trying to state that no one could replace him and do a better job than him...which is crazy because that is what he hired us for "Company success" during this huge company growth period.  Or if he just likes to put people in their place or bring them down a notch.  However, I do want to say that he does also give out complements on occassions.  But one was "Your doing good ...so far"  like he was expecting me not to do good later...down the road.  One of my co-workers says she thinks he suffers from Nepolan syndrom or short man syndrom....over bearing his athority.

He really hasn't given us new employees all the tools we need to do the best job we possibly can and all of us succeed for the company.

I appreciate any advise you can give.  And do you see him giving me an increase in pay for taking on this position.  In the interview he said when I leared a design software he would increase my pay from $15 to $22 and hour.  I would think that taking on this new position would call for an increase.  However, He has let people go when they have asked for more money in similar situation as me.

His name is James and he is about 42, about 5'6 and dark hair.

Best Regards,
Lady Di

In my opinion, he's just doing his job. He's doing what he's supposed to do.  He isn't your friend, he's your employer, your boss, your paycheck signer.  He's only doing what needs to be done in order to keep the company going and excelling the way it is. Yes, it's growing fast and he needs the best people to make it grow fast with.  It takes a team.  Of course he would let people go because certain individuals bringing up a possible raise/bonus/etc., he's a business man, he doesn't really need anybody on his team only working for him just to get more money.  For example, in his eyes, if you bring up money then he'll automatically start thinking that's all you care about and you should be thinking about your job not money.  He's just eager for the way things are taking off and how exceptional they've become. Also, most people in the later generation aren't really technologically advance when it comes to understanding certain things.

Hi Di,

Here at Mystic Board we do not allow third party readings which in this case would mean a reading for your boss, but if we look at this situation from a different perspective there are a few things that stand out to me straight away and this is nothing to do with psychic ability just common sense and experience of running my own business.

But to me, anyone who suggests or even hints that the boss/owner has a syndrome due to his stature is not showing the respect that they should and is already most probably biased and bigoted towards that particular physical attribute, which of course is grounds for immediate dismissal, at least it is here in the UK. So I would push those thoughts to the very back of your mind and disregard them immediately.

It is not easy to run a successful business nowadays, the financial climate is very hard and it is possible that raising salaries, even if deserved,  is too much and actually firing people or keeping the same salary might be what is needed to balance the books.

At the end of the day you have laws to protect you, but so does your boss. If you aren't happy then that will be reflected in your work, but it does sound to me like you need to ask for a chat with him, show respect and discuss your worries and hopes and fears, then see what you decide.

Good Luck

I think you have misunderstood my posting...or the wording of my posting.  I have a good heart and I am willing to do anything to get the job done.  I have a very good understanding of what it takes to run a business.  I have jumped in weather it is taking out the garbage, gasing the car, picking up office supplies, answering the phone, problem solving, taking on my bosses scheduled appointment, etc.  All I was really asking was for guidance on how to communicate with his personality.  I thought if I gave you some details it might help you to see better into the situation.  I was not being disrespectful.
