Hello,

I'm trying to understand this gift I have since I was a young child. I've always been clairvoyant, intuitive and spiritual from when I was a little girl. However, I still feel like there is so much in this area I haven't embraced - like a wall is up. Information come to me and I'm accurate - then I have other days where I wonder if it is all in my head. I'm just wondering if anything comes through for anyone.

If there was not such a protective wall or filter in place in order to prevent you from being overloaded with excessive information leading to premature burnout, then all things would be revealed at once. The longer I do this spiritual work or labour of love, the more I realise that there is still so much more to be learnt. Even the most gifted of readers will continue to experience some days when the psychic information flows freely, while on other days our guides decide that we need a temporary time out to restore our own spiritual batteries.

So they bring down the curtain on our psychic abilities for a while, to give us the opportunity to get on with the rest of our lives to live as we see fit. Self doubt about one's intuitive abilities is par for the course, and up to a certain point questioning the messages we receive is both healthy (otherwise our lives are ruled by blind superstition) and assists our guides in determining how best to help both ourselves as the reader, as well as our clients. Our questions provide them with the feedback which they often require to more easily discern what information needs to be brought through at a particular sitting, and what can wait until later. In addition to developing even greater sensitivity to these psychic impressions which are often very subtle and therefore easily drowned out or lost amongst the much louder mental static, it is imperative that you do not attempt to fully open yourself 24/7.

You are not some cold machine, but a living, breathing human being with challenges and responsibilities of her own, and you are not expected to be a permanent psychic telephone line for someone else who would be better off learning to do things for themselves for a pleasant change, or a passive secretary at the sacrifice of your own equally important needs. Grounding and protection techniques should be an essential part of your daily psychic hygiene. Another important skill is that of discernment.

This means the ability to sort out what is genuine psychic information, from what is merely wishful thinking or the product of our own vivid imaginations. These skills and much more can best be developed by sitting with a group of other people who are developing their own psychic abilities in a regular psychic development group or circle under the supervision of a knowledgeable and understanding teacher or facilitator. Although the other members of your circle's gifts may be very different from your own, only constant practice combined with constructive feedback from them will help you with developing greater discernment. Read as many different books on the subject as you can find and take whatever seems most relevant and helpful to you, but rather than discarding everything else put it away on the shelf to be brought out at a later time to be re-examined in the light of further information which may now be available to you that you did not know about before. Ask loads of intelligent questions in the general psychic forum.



I have also observed that just being in the presence of other psychics and intuitives seems to stimulate increasing awareness of and jump start our own abilities. Indeed many people have only been made aware of their own healing abilities when they visited a healer for treatment of their health problems. To become an effective healer you must first at least begin to better understand and heal yourself. In a similar manner, to become an effective psychic you must first ask yourself the reason why you want to do this work and obtain an honest answer.

If you are doing it purely out of ego because you want others to believe that you possess some special or even supernatural abilities that they as mortals do not, avoid this work like poison. Only if you are doing this to help others with no expectation for fame or material reward should you proceed. This does not mean that if you do this for a living that you should not charge your clients a reasonable fee for your services, or that you will not be rewarded many times over for your time and efforts.

I believe that when we choose to walk this spiritual path (which can be a difficult and lonely one at times) that our guides ensure that we and our families are always well cared for. I do not mean some airy fairy idea of a ghostly caretaker who patronisingly pats us on the head when we wonder how we are going to pay our living costs on time. I myself have been given wise financial advice in the past from a voice in my head which I acted upon, and this has turned out with hindsight to be an immense benefit to my family (me, my wife and two now adult children) in providing them with long term financial security, despite my many years of chronic illness and having to resign from my career as a teacher for medical reasons. I was also given my future wife's name, at least eight years before I met her in the late 1970s. The point I am trying to make here is that if we help others, we are in turn often helped, although the source of such assistance may come from completely unexpected directions.

The final thing I am being asked to tell you is that developing psychic abilities without at the same time developing the spiritual maturity to be able to use them effectively and with compassion, will bring both yourself and your clients much suffering. We are spiritual beings temporarily having a physical series of valuable experiences or learning opportunities which are more readily available in a world such as this one. When the physical shell which currently encases our body of light has served it's useful purpose we will discard it and return to our true home in order to be ever nearer to our Creator.
