Dear Princess,
Can't sleep have a lot of stress? You and me as well, although possibly for entirely different reasons. Nobody ever promised us that life was always going to be a bed of roses, but this is getting ridiculous. It is bad enough that we are left feeling as though we are being constantly surrounded (and apparently left entirely to our own devices) by a daily dose of negativity from the politicians and media, but if you are anything like me (and I sense you are) you are quite capable of creating enough stress from within yourself without any further need from anyone or anything external.
And so we continue to go over and over in our minds night after night deep in our thoughts, in case we can find yet another reason for beating up on ourselves because we believe that we can now see that we either did something we felt was "wrong", or was not the wisest thing to do at the time. Of course deciding whether what we did or did not do was good or bad, wrong or right or wise or unwise are only our own labels (highly subjective terms). But these thoughts going around and around in our heads night after night act quite effectively as a particularly good basis for us developing problems in getting and staying asleep.
To probably make matters worse when attempting to go to sleep with little success we are already in an altered state of consciousness, and these worries and negative thoughts have a much more damaging effect on our bodies and our feelings of self confidence, than they might have had if we were still wide awake. Basically you find yourself in a light stage of hypnosis, where any suggestions you make to your subconscious mind (even those you never intended to) do not meet the usual resistance from your waking conscious. Each time these suggestions are made, they build upon or reinforce each other. Their negative effects can then unfortunately accumulate over months or years.
Some well meaning teachers suggest that we should train our minds to become empty of any thoughts at all, but anyone who has tried this especially at 2.00 AM when everybody else in their home is peacefully sleeping will soon realise that this is an exercise in extreme frustration. As soon as your mind almost empties itself of any thoughts, many more negative ones come rushing in as if to fill the space left behind ASAP? A more useful plan would surely be to leave the negative thoughts where they are and accept them, and at the same time crowd them out with positive and uplifting ones. Make these worn out old thoughts feel no longer welcome, by substituting them with words of inspiration and encouragement (spiritual affirmations).
It would be rather wrong and cruel of me (my labels, not your own this time) to tell you that there will be no further obstacles placed in your path, and that life from now on will be ONLY love and light. On the other hand on the basis of this reading, I can see no reason whatsoever for you losing any hope for a brighter and much more satisfying future for you over the coming months. While working upon those negative thought habits we all have is not going to magically turn around your life overnight (after all it may have taken you years to accumulate them), it will certainly make the time between now and then much more bearable, and hopefully allow you to get your nightly beauty sleep once again.
Hoping that these insights have been of some help and comfort to you when you are next feeling as though you are completely alone in thinking such things to yourself, while laying in bed troubled with insomnia,
