Hi, Annie.
Here's what I'm getting. Let me know how it strikes you.
Normally I would think, well, the guy isn't getting back to you, and so he must not be interested. That is not at all what I'm getting here. There's a history here: Matt has needlessly doubted himself and your feelings for him. He has been in major denial about the feelings between you. He's gone off on some ill-conceived project, a wild goose chase of some kind. Well-meaning but tilting at windmills, if you will. What do you suppose I'm seeing there?
Either his father or his employer has been harsh and ill-tempered with him.
Right now, he is just not being terribly responsible about getting back to people. It's not because he doesn't care. Quite the opposite. He procrastinates because he is afraid of not saying the perfect thing, and then time goes by, and he feels guilty for not getting back to you, and so he procrastinates more, on and on. His self-doubt can really render him ineffectual sometimes. You'll have to take the initiative again and get in touch with him. Show him you have only fond feelings for him and are really interested in being in touch with him. Propose a visit or date of some kind.
I get that the tide is turning for him, that this period of struggle and doubt will soon give way to some sort of victory and a foundation for the future. I think you are a crucial part of this, but you're required to act. So to answer your original question-- the time to get in touch is this weekend, but you have to initiate.
As for your job situation: When you mention health problems, I get that this has to do with some natural force within you run wild. At first I thought it might be a problem with addiction or an emotional disorder, but the more I focus on it, the more it seems like a somatic problem, something in the body. My strongest impression is of autoimmune disorder or similar-- something like fibromyalgia, lupus, chronic fatique, or diabetes (type 1). I don't want to pry, but please let me know if that's right.
And the signs I'm getting for employment in the near future are not good. I didn't understand how I could be seeing anything about an employer in the near future if you're not working. Then I checked again and saw that you said you were
laid off. Does that mean that you're still connected to that employer? I get the strong sense that this employer is too concerned with productivity to really accomodate you, and it seems a characteristic of the industry in general, wherever you are. I am seeing some pretty irritating employers and work situations.
I think that's as it should be. Not being tied down to a dream job, you'll be free to make an important move when the time comes.
Please let me know how this strikes you.
