I dont know if anyone here has gotten a chance to watch this show on A&E, but it was really powerful to me.  In case you dont know, its a show where kids (8-17) who feel isolated or fearful of psychic abilities they may have are helped by Chip Coffey and Dr. Lisa Miller.  Each one-hour episode features three kids who ultimately are brought together by Chip and Lisa to learn how to cope with their gifts and to realize they are not alone.

From seeing dead people to frightening abilities to predict the future, Chip and Lisa will uncover the truths and help the terrified and gifted. In the end, "Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal," is an intense journey of a medium and a psychologist, who draw on their own personal experiences, training, and unique outlook on life to teach troubled kids how to deal with what they often feel is a curse, as much as a unique and special gift.

I am a 17 year old boy, possibly with "psychic" abilities?

Over the past couple of years I have felt spirits in and around my house. To be honest, I feel like they are BAD spirits. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but I know when they are there. I can feel this sort of...heavy feeling in my chest when they are around.
It can appear in an instant, and its not pleasent.

I have never seen them in detail, but I can see dark shadow-like areas around the house when they are there. They often hang out in corners, but they can move around if they wish. The ones I most often feel are in a corner in my living room, in my basement, and on a ledge next to my stairs as if it watches me go up and down them.

I have felt them touch my back and stand or sit on my bed at night. One time one of the spirits tried talking to me. It was weird, it was whispering, and yet i could hear it perfectly, almost as if i were listenin to it through a set of headphones. I have had them in my dreams, and i have even woken up with claw-like bruises on my arms.

For a while there was this black hawk-like thing in my backyard that would freak me out really bad. Certain things, animals, and people give me the same feeling that i get when im around the spirits. Like i could pass someone on the street and just get this horrible vibe type thing from them, just this really evil feeling...so...i dont really know what thats about.

I have even heard these things walking around downstairs, and crawling underneath my bed.

Oh also, if anyone knows anything about this, when i walk down streets at night, street lights continue to burn out when i walk underneath them, i really dont know what thats all about, but its starting to freak out my friends. So yeah, its kind of weird but i dont really know what to make of it. it doesnt seem like just a coincidence, it happens too frequently, and if i am in a group it only happens when i walk underneath it. Also i have tried walking back under them, and some of them turn back on, one did it like ten times.

I dont know if these things are ghosts or what, but some outside input would probably help. I dont know if I am leaving anything out, probably, but i will post if i can think of anything else.   I really just want to know if in your opinion, if i was born with these gifts.  Thanks Mystic Board.

We are all born with the capacity to open and use our psychic abilities, some people believe we have a gland for this purpose - the pineal.  It does require a conscious effort to work with them to actually open and hone their practice.  And, of course, some will be stronger than others in the psychic abilities.  

Knowledge is power.  Learn all you can and then get a teacher/mentor to help with the basics as you practice to hone your own particular talents.

Being sensitive as we all are, we attract many different things,
Fear I feel is the easiest to attract,
When the mention of bad things,,, People tend to see the supernatural enviroment as full of demons and bad spirits,
Change what it is you attract.

It's all very exciting and seductive, You won't lose ablitites by blocking out the lower energies, There's a harmony to everything.
The tv shows seem to base their experiences on negitive activity, Which is scary.

It's just like someone knocking on your door, or the phone ringing,,, You decide to answer it or not.
If someone shows up at your door and wants to communicate with you, but they are violent in their demeanor, You shut the door.

Please becareful on who's guidance you take,
everyone and everything is a lesson to better improve ourselves and our perspectives.

Hey!  I'm so glad you made it over here!  (I'm "Sarah" from the other site.)  I think you'll learn a lot more here (not so much back and forth about the merits, or lack thereof, of the shows   )--there are a lot of people here who take their "gifts" very seriously and are willing to help without all the bickering (usually!).

There are also several other people around your age on the board.  Maybe you could start a thread regarding being a younger person with these kinds of abilities--you might be able to get more of what you were looking to get from the show (learning more about your gift while at the same time dealing with feeling "different" at a time in your life when there are a lot of other confusing things going on in general!), without the whole "media/entertainment" thing going on.  (I suggested that a separate forum be started for younger people here--based on the issues discussed on the other board--but one of the moderators correctly pointed out that there are issues regarding predators, etc. that could become a problem if a forum were limited to people under a certain age.)

As I mentioned before, finding ways to lose the fear and feel that you are in control of what's happening is really important (I agree with Kybunker's statement about this), as is deciding what it is you want (if anything) to do with your ability once you have a better handle on it (you don't necessarily have to do ANYTHING  with it but learn from seeing beyond what we're usually limited to in our daily lives).
