Automatic writing is a physical phenomena that was quite prominent in the beginnings of Spiritualism (where a lot of phenomena has been described and practiced). Like a lot of the physical phenomena it has taken some evolution to adapt to modern technology.
In the beginning it was a medium in trance state with pen and paper. With the advancement of typewriters to computers, there is a lot of phenomena that happens, even without too much of an altered state of consciousness. Some of us just put hands on the keyboard and get surprised at what happens.

I saw an episode of celebrity paranormal experiment that used auto writing in a seance setting. The participants watched as the "writer" went into a trance and produced the writings and drawings of the said spirit. It was a vigil in the Waverly Hills Sanitorium in Tennessee where apparently a nurse was reputed to have hung herself and through this writing indicated that she was indeed murdered by her lover (a doctor) in the sanitorium who had killed her because she refused to abort his baby.
Not sure if it was true or if the show did in depth research into the sanitorium before taping.
Did anyone else see this show?
