A lot of bad things happened in the past year, and I was depressed. I felt defeated and didn't want to dream about my future or anything. Seriously, I felt like the biggest failure on Earth. Then, I went for a walk with my dog.

On our walk, there was this little bird. It kept walking with us a little ahead of us. I mean, if I would make a turn, that bird would fly in front of us and walk ahead of us again. Then, it would stop, turn to face me, make a high-pitch sound unlike the other birds, and pick up its wing as if it's calling me to follow him. And I curiously followed that little bird while it seem point in a certain direction and walked ahead in that direction. In the end, it lead my dog and I to this beautiful breezy shaded area where we had a wonderful view.

In that shaded area, I found answers of what I did wrong and what I should do from now on. I felt better after following that bird. It felt like someone was telling me the answers or comforting me.

Now, is what happened to me how spirits help us out or was it just a coincidence that my foolish actions made me feel better? I mean, how do you know if you contacted spirits?

I would really appreciate it if I could have some input. I know I say that all the time, but it's the truth. I'm trying to learn to listen to my heart and grow spiritually, and I would definitely love it if you all could help me out. Thank you so much! :D

You really sound so cool and mature--I'm amazed by your posts!  Just had to say that first...

About a year and a half ago I wrote a book about someone I'd loved very much, and lost.  Your post here made me think of something I wrote a couple of weeks after he passed:

Late one weekend morning I stepped outside my front door, and saw a bird sitting at the top of my steps, looking at me. It wasn't one of the pigeons, or sparrows, or grackles that come around all the time; it was a nondescript gray bird. As far as I could tell, it wasn't injured or sick, but it stood by the door and watched me without fear, and didn't fly away for a long time. I wasn't in any frame of mind that would make me think that it didn't have something to do with David.

I've always felt that birds can be messengers of that sort (at least since that day!), because other things like that have happened.

But there are many ways in which spirits can let you know they're "around"--each, like the living, has his or her own personality, relationship with you, and way of doing things.  So pay attention to things like "your" bird, and anything else that just makes you feel that there's something "more" to it than meets the eye, and to synchronicities, physical sensations, dreams, etc.

There was nothing "foolish" in what you said, or thought.  You're on the right track.  It's easy to think that some things might be "wishful thinking", especially when we're grieving someone--and sometimes that really is all it is.  But definitely not always.  So keep your eyes and heart and mind open, because just about anything is possible when you love and you're able to do that.  (And really, whether or not the bird, or anything else you experience like that, is a sign or a message from "the beyond", if the experience gives you a happy, positive feeling, or influences you to make things better for yourself or others, there's nothing wrong with going with that feeling!)

It's strange to be reading this topic.  My brother passed away on March 6, 2008.  He always loved Blue Jays...even gave his son the middle name Jay.  Anyway, I've never had Blue Jays in my yard...lots of Cardinals, Hummingbirds, Woodpeckers and such, but never Blue Jays.  Now they are everywhere...they sit on my birdbath and garage and sing constantly.  It's as if he is here with me letting me know he is happy and content in his new place.

Doe is exactally right. As long as you feel happy for the expierience, enjoy it.

I do believe they are spirits. I believe that if you follow and listen, like you both did, you
come out for the better.

I'll tell you something weird, I see the spirits in other ways. Some animals, but not many.
I get my inspiration from what catches my eye. Usually flowers, clouds, and trees.
I don't know how, but when they catch my eye, I think about what I'm dealing with and get the answer
without asking.

I personally think we are the lucky few.

yeah i think that bird was a familar and was trying to tell you something and it apparently succeded in doing so. I have spirits guide me on a daily basis
