Recently there was a thread that was concerned about predictions in readings. However, I feel that the topic itself does merit further discussion and so would like to open a thread to get a few views about what we all think and feel about predictions and forecasts being given in readings.

I am hoping that this will be a friendly and serious discussion that may give us all something to think about.

At the end of May there will be a new law passed that will bring the UK into line with the EU laws regarding consumer goods, (which covers readings, spirit readings and mediumship etc) and which may have a very definitive bearing on the way that people can actually seek legal redress for things like predictions that do not happen and psychic readings that give bad information or distress. Many other countries and states already have similar laws in force.

So should people pass on concrete predictions or should they perhaps be re-worded as possibilities?

Is there ever any way to give a bad prediction properly or should these be left unsaid?

Surely just by giving the prediction the reader has changed the future?

Do we really have the right to withhold information from a reading?

Do we really need to pass on whatever we are given, good or bad?

What about those that are learning, new to reading, practising or developing?

Is there a way we can improve our readings and setup here at Mystic Board?

When are people going to start being responsible for themselves? People can change their lives at the drop of a hat. The Dr. who predicts a person die in 6 wekks, may see that same patient 2 years later a live and well, just because the person chose to live, and a person can be told they have 40 years of health ahead and die the next day for no reason.
We all have free will and have the power within us to change, at any moment and we do.

I can answer only as I prefer readings for MYSELF.
which would be - give me truths.
Nothing is set in stone, so for me the "prediction" if negative would be taken as a warning to watch out, fix, correct, beware.
That said, I don't often have readings and have to be very comfortable with the reader in order to take it all to heart.
I'm not sure I believe that absolute predictions can be forecast specifically for a person because of choice/free will.  General episodes (i.e. flood in Kansas, or tidal wave in Antartica) yes, I do think can be seen.
I also think some people don't take enough responsibility for their own lives.  Someone has a reading, a prediction of love with a dark haired man, and she instead falls for a blonde so seeks legal redress.... that kind of attitude just irks me.  I feel it is our responsibility to take the reading and work with it.
If I were reading, I would most likely word predictions as possibilities because of the laws you mentioned, Gem.  And to avoid the people who try to get reading after reading, ignoring content and examination, until landing on one that fits what they want to hear.
just my not enough coffee yet opinion.

Hi Tourbi, I'm not sure what you meant there?

Quote:

Do you mean the readers or the seekers? Are you implying that people shouldn't request a reading at all, or that the readers should take responsibilty for any predictions they make?

I agree that in many cases, especially in self-readings, predictions can act as warnings and give us the chance to prepare or to act or to change our ways  But we know ourselves and giving a prediction to a stranger means that we have to take the person as we find them, mostly with no background or history or personal knowledge and so it can be impossible to know how they will react in their own particular circumstances, they might be vulnerable and depressed and take an overdose or hurt them selves, or even make decisions that change their life based on the prediction....
