Personally I would never give up completely with regards to finding any wayward pet. When I was much younger we owned a pet galah (a sort of parrot found here in Australia) that escaped from it's cage and went missing for almost seven months until a person almost 40 kilometres from where were were living at the time saw the bird in their back yard and just happened to still have the old newspaper containing one of our appeals for help to find it plus our telephone number.
Therefore while 5 days without your cat may seem like an eternity to you, your reading shows that your beloved pet should eventually be found largely by a stroke of good luck in a similar manner to what our bird was all those years ago. Only if the cat has not been returned to you after say the end of this year would I be thinking about replacing it with another, unless you have a small child or elderly person who depends on the animal for emotional support and for a feeling as though life is still worth living.
Please keep us updated about any further developments of a positive nature,
