Gem:  For some they see qualifications as a step in their own knowledge and understanding of their craft.  Would I like to go to a reader I Know is qualified or one just playing around with the cards?  We each must answer for ourselves!

It is exactly this attitude that has me saying - talent, skill, ability - rather than gift.  As a gift too many think it is given and they are competent at the outset.  They just aren't qualified without either some experience, spirituality and maybe even some training.

a psychic reading isn't about the future???? Is anyone on this board aware that most people go to a psychic for just that? People want to know about future loves, currant loves, jobs and or possible windfalls.

I am now beinging to understand some of the sucky readings that I've gotten.

For matters of spiritual advice I would go a minister, priest, rabbi or the practictioner of whatever religion I practiced who had and is studing the holy books of my religion. Someone considered wise and has helped people.

A:  Not quite!  Have you considered that some psychic take absolutely no notice of their own spirituality, while others practice their own brand of spirituaity in ALL that they do.  There is room for psychics in this world - let's not throw it all out in the heat of the moment!

For mental health problems I'd go to a mental health expert who had studied in his or her field and was recommended as having helped people.

For medical advice I'd go to the best doctor I could find.

For a glimpse into the future I'd go or would have gone to a psychic. Not any more. After reading what people seem to think is a psychic reading I'll not throw any more money away. I'll discuss the matter of possibilities with my cats. They probably have great insight in what the future holds--the litterbox will be clean and the humans will bring canned cat food home.

A:  While cats are very intuitive animals - the language barrier may present a problem.  The fact is....Psychic have a place in this world and I, for one, do not dismiss their advantages.

The future can be seen like a higher perspective from a helicopter and the psychic can be that pilot.  To go to a reading for advice on your own future indicates a very weak ability at free will choices.

Why count on someone else to design your life?  Where is your own personal responsiblity.  After all, you are responsible in the end for all affects of your life - why not make the decisions instead of giving away all that power to decide?

As for comparing a psychic to an economist--an economist like the devil can read statistics anyway they want. And they are not always right either.   Thistle

A:  It was not a comparison - even Jesus spoke in parables.  Sometimes describing things from another perspective just aids the understanding.  Let's not stand on this as the only one.

God bless, J

I am not agreeing or disagreeing  but down the street from my house there a Cuban lady who reads tarot and runs a shop  .i approached her and asked some questions along the line of teaching and showing one how to read  .she replied that one can not be taught that it is a gift and you must be born with that gift .and even then you must be able to access it and  called up to guide.  i my self dabble in all areas of the occult  and it has changed my life in ways that i cant explain  all for the positive i must add .and have help many people over the years ..no formal training just lots of readings , studying and  praying .and being that i have little money and no need for it .i dont see any advance training in my future .but will continue to study and learn on my own ....i do noT work and havnt for over ten year my life is one of service to others....

There are many self proclaimed 'teachers' who want to maintain a position of high on the pedistal of knowledge - no one is capable of learning as they are to practice.  It smacks of ego here!

I found many people in the 60s (the era of the flower child) to be people who opted out of societies pressures to just give their life over to others.  They made their living under the table and thereby perverted the social economic picture.  They were not contributors to society but expected return from it.  Sometimes when we hold down a job and support ourselves and families without social aid, we are more contributing to the whole (and thereby capable of changing what is not right about it) through our participation.

I WAS BORN IN THE 60s  imagine that........
I agree that I have opted out  but I ask nothing of anybody . I have done more than my share of contributing to the chaotic social scene that man has put into motion. including serving my country for four years . I grow my own food use little city utilities.  I dont believe in taxes and what money I do need I get from wasteful people that have way more than they will ever need .example recycling .you may question this but I assure you its the gospel.I cant be apart of something that I detest so passionating .and to thank that  going along with it will in some way help change it . now thats like feeding the lion thanking he will not bite you. the government and the people running it..... sorry but you hit a tender spot forgive me.    i do my share in helping people , that is my life goal to be of service to those in need .

Kind of one of my sore spots too - from a different perspective.  Government may not be the best choice - but opting out is definitely not the best one either.

Judging others as having enough to share, without giving them the opportunity, is perverting spirituality (IME) rather than aiding it.  Taxes are merely a means to allow a central bank to share the wealth where the need is seen.  Are there mistakes? Yes.  Can it be improved?  Yes - but then we would have to want to make changes to life that benefit more than ourselves.

Rant over....
