Welcome Steve,
I completely agree with most of what you have said, and I believe that most people on these forums would agree with us that religion has got some very bad press lately as a potential source of all these misunderstandings and problems in getting to know our true selves. Could I please add to what you have suggested that it is not religion as such that is mainly at fault here, but rather how it is interpreted by people who are doing so in their own best interests, rather than attempting to lead anyone back to God (from the Latin word religo - meaning to bind the person back to God)?
Fundamentalism with regard any set of religious or non religious beliefs is at fault here, and not so much the beliefs themselves. Much of what has been served up in the past as religion has been based on a need to control it's followers by means of creating fear, and even though in more modern times this hell and brimstone way of preaching has been largely diluted and replaced by church as mainly a place for the entertainment of large numbers of young people, a great amount of the bad public relations from the past has obviously stuck.
Just like yourself I believe that our psychic abilities are perfectly natural. They are a direct consequence of us each being a spiritual being temporarily using a physical body. Because we have both a spiritual body and physical body (each with it's own senses), we cannot help but be psychic to a degree, but our modern society has taught us not only to ignore our instincts, but even worse to suggest that they are in themselves evil (and show that we are personally in league with Satan). We are designed to use both reason and intuition in a balanced manner when needing to make informed decisions? Only using cold hard facts and logic effectively reduces us to machines, while using our feelings and instincts alone leads to a life based purely on a belief in magic and superstition.
I believe that the whole point of posting this was to express your own opinions on this matter, and in order to stimulate further friendly discussion on this subject. I both admire and respect you for doing so, and I hope that other members will see this as being a valuable opportunity for thinking about their own natural psychic abilities in a different way. So many of our newer members come to us convinced that they lack any significant psychic ability, when I believe on the other hand that it is no coincidence that they have come here at this particular time in their lives with the inner purpose of discovering quite the reverse. Perhaps we should look more here at how we can each become more comfortable and confident with using our own psychic abilities in a practical manner, rather than simply debating philosophy (otherwise this posting should be made in another forum, other than this one)
Namaste,

Hello, thanks for the replies.I definately agree with your post eye of tiger. The main reason of my posting was more to introduce myself and my views as I do truly believe that psychic ability is natural. I also believe strongly that all things are connected and religion in and of itself in an infinite universe varies infinately. I witness psychic communications in nature on a regular basis as I raise Appaloosa horses,I have yet to see an animal in nature that goes through a complicated religious ritual to achieve psychic communication. Indeed even in my mediumship,I rarely if ever(other than for the sake of the living) have religious based communication with spirit, most of them just want to increase awareness in our physical world. Thanks

Steve,
It is great to meet yet another Aussie on these forums (greetings from South Australia).

I once visited El Cabello Blanco in your home state of WA (1970s), where I witnessed the sheer majesty and sensitivity of the Appaloosa horses which were performing there. It was as though for a moment in time that the rider and horse's energy fields were one, with a shared purpose to work some sympathetic magic?

Although I do not like yourself function mainly as a medium, I feel that when mediumship gets too bogged down in religion and taking ourselves much too seriously all of the time, that much of the sheer joy and spontaneity of spiritual communion is unfortunately lost.
Even God him or herself has a sense of humour, as if he did not why then did he decide to create human beings?
Your's truly,
