so i was reading the autobiography of a Japanese artist named Gackt.  In it, he claims that he almost died while swimming in the ocean.  Since then he could see dead people and hear voices.  

it got me thinking, is this a normal thing?  Do near death experiences have a way of opening people to their hidden potentials?

Having near Death Experiences and then surviving naturally makes you think about HIM (GOD) and thank HIM for HIS kindness in saving you. You then reach a stage when you become psychic. You start feeling things which a normal person cannot. It will depend from person to person what their feelings are.

I don't know if it happens like that with every one or whether it runs in family's but my grandson almost died at least five times when he was a year old now hes five and he as spirits (dead people) around him that he calls his friends i have seen a few of them .he would not know them but a regular visitor is my mother as hes still ill she watches over him and his machine at night another regular is Ben he visits because he as concerns over his mother  but their only in visitation it amazes me how he handles his gift at such a young age he often stays in his room talking to them

I do believe that tragic can trigger psychic abilities or mediumship. Althought my gift date since I was 5 yrs. old with the years I put the gift behind me due to several reasons. I forgot all about it, until recently in April 07, I was envolved into 2 car accidents, since then my perception, intuition and sensitivity has increase tremendously. Take for example John Holland story and that will give you a good example also.

I agree with Southern Sky. In his book "Born Knowing" Psychic John Holland credits his car accident with really opening him psychically. In my own personal experience also. A number of years ago, I was standing on the sidewalk and an out of control car ran me over. I sufferred numerous injuries and was in a coma. When I awoke I found my fiancee married to another man and I could see things. Disregard the last sentence. I got carried away - that's actually the intro. from The Dead Zone T.V. Show LOL.
Seriously I was in a coma, but only about 48 hours. I did notice months later I would get mental precognitive images while being relaxed and they would happen later that day. During that time I was investing in the stock market. On several occassions I had names of companies I had never heard of pop into my head. Sure enough, those stocks would be the leading market gainers the following day. Actually, that's what started me on my journey to learn about esp, remote viewing etc (once I got over the shallow thinking of just using my intuition to make money )
