Well, having just taken a trip down memory lane, it brought me to remember another interesting occurance (I have way too many to count

or

).
This one happened during a drive back to University one summer to go apartment hunting. The drive was long 11 hours, in about the 5th hour we got into an accident. The stretch of highway we were driving is two laned, sometimes passing lanes pop up, this is the system for about 1200km's total east and west from our original starting point. We were about 500kms or so east. In order to pass vehicles you are in the oncoming lane. As the drive is long and monotonous, you are usually passing the slower drivers.
During our trip, my position was horizontal, boots off, no seatbelt, full comfort mode, sleeping in the back of a '????" I don't know, but it had a hatchback. The copilot and myself were both 'out cold' when our buddy, the driver, suddenly yelled 'oh shit' (pardon). I sat up, don't know what was going on up front, but I do remember the car feeling like it was flying and turing a lot. I felt, what I thought was all of our luggage come crashing down on my back...then nothing.
When I came to, I was surprised to see the car face up next to me horizontally. The driver (my buddy) was out of his whits. I felt so bad for him, all he could do was apologize, all I wanted were my boots because I was in a bog. All three of us walked away unscathed. I had a lot of trouble catching my breath at first, but tried to play like all was good so as not to worry anyone. We found my boot and headed for the side of the road where we found out ambulances were one their way.
NOW THE DETAILS:
Turns out we were passing a transport over a small hill. We had one in front and one behind. Although the hill was small, it was big enough to conceal the oncoming car in our direction. Because I was commotose during this episode, this is what we were told by our buddy driving. So, in a 'ditch' effort to avoid a certain death or serious injury, of not only ourselves but also those in the head on car, we went left...and quite literally into the ditch. The car caught air, that is when I awoke, well actually just before.
During the crashing, well the flipping of the car, I guess somehow I was thrown out of one of the windows? never could figure that one out, and what I thought was luggage was actually the weight of the top of the car coming down on me in the spin. So all we can think is that I was thrown out in the direction of the spin, then it made its final turn over me.
Now, this would sound impossible....yes, that is what we thought. I guess, since we were in the bog, the impact of the hit was cushioned by the nature of the ground, I guess, like a sponge, it allowed me to sink instead of being squished.
Crazy I know!!!!
That is exactly what we thought when we examined the scene of the accident. 10 ft more one way or the next, solid rock EVERYWHERE! Having driven that part of the highway many times, there was NO other place so perfect for our crash. That is what freaked us out.
Much later, at a friends place, recounting the accident, my friend, in a joking manner, said 'hey maybe you have a guardian angel'. At that moment we all seemed to notice the pin on my bag. It was an angel given to me by my grandmother before she had passed away. When we all saw it, the room was quiet, as I guess we were all thinking the same thing. Only then to clear our minds with some sweet indulgence of beer, as none of us could cope with that thought at the time.
NOTE: While in the hospital after the accident, called home to inform family I was okay. Turns out my sister, who was driving in the opposite direction also got in an accident, and had called only 30 minutes before. I had never even thought of trying to find out the times, I guess that would be impossible now....but I did feel bad for my folks, as they had 1 hour of serious stress!
...my sisters accident, another story for a later time...very strange!!!!
sunshine and smiles!
