The psychic ability is not a gift...it is a talent, skill, ability.  The reason to consider this is...anyone can do it!  The other reason is...it is a part of who you are as a human being...some say we have a gland for the psychic...the pineal!  This is neither proven nor dismissed as mystics tend to see from the pineal.

The most interest approach I have found comes from Tara Ward's Develop Your Psychic Power.  It takes the natural and innate 5 senses within our being and suggests how to add 2 more...intuition and I know (this comes from the heart - it neither sees nor hears - it just knows) as you take them on a more sensitive/open level of your being.  As someone mentioned that 1/2 asleep state (Alpha) which can also be accomplished in meditation.  Mediumship follows when we include a spirit guide.

That brings us to meditation - it is the tool.  (See my blog for some ideas on meditation that may help).  

A do-it-yourself project of working on self is not as satisfying as finding a good mentor or teacher (as another poster mentioned) and they can be found in many places.  A small, local, alternative bookstore is one place and Spiritualism (religion, philosophy, science) is another.  http://groups.msn.com/spiritualwisdom  this has some articles and dialogue to help the seeker.

Never meant to insinuate that it was. I was just saying what other christians have to say about it. These are things Ive heard before from "the horses mouth" *lol*. Most are not accepting of "natural abilities" and consider it a gift from god.
