There are various types of mental psychic mediums such as clairvoyance, clairaudience and clairsentience, three of the most well known techniques that psychic mediums use.

However there are several more techniques and gifts that are used by psychic mediums that are listed below.

• Clairvoyance (clear seeing). Some mediums see animals, people, objects and angels in spirit form in there minds eye. Psychic mediums often refer to having a spirit guide or guides, who help and give them information to give to the client.

• Clairsentience (clear sensing). This a gift of sensitive feeling of energies or having a sense of angels or some one in spirit around them or the person they are doing a reading for. A psychic medium with this gift tends to feel rather than actually see.

• Clairaudience (clear hearing). This is the gift of hearing voices from the world of spirit. This often manifests in to different ways to the psychic medium. Some hear the voice within there heads, others hear the voices out side there heads like they are listening to a person talking to them. Of course the client can not hear all this.

• Clairalience (clear smelling). Some psychic mediums can smell pipe, cigarette smoke or the odor of the person in spirit.

• Claircognizant (clear knowing). This is the gift of simply knowing that something is correct without any doubt. This can be about a person or situation, its just a clear feeling of absolute and total knowing.

• Clairambience (clear tasting). The psychic medium can taste the what the person in spirit liked to eat and drink. This is often given by spirit to give confirmation to the to the client

If you think you have some of these gifts and would like to train to be a psychic medium, you should sit in a development circle which is led by a experienced and professional psychic medium.

One of the best ways to find a circle is to go to a Spiritualist Church and ask the members there to point you in the direction of some one who is running a circle.

As a psychic we are attuned to our own higher self.  It is not a higher energy...just our own highest thought.  This, then, would depend strongly on personal effort to raise spirituality within themselves.  Psychics read energies.  And we know from experience how confusing all those energies around us can be.  That means that they tend to give to the seeker what they wish to hear because that is the strongest energy around them, at that time.

A medium uses psychic connection but progresses with it to spirit realms.  The place where we all pass in the fullness of our existence, when the body is no longer useful.  (A full understanding and study of the afterlife (from channelled material) would help us understand this connection/partnership in great detail).  This spirit guide is limited by their responsibilities to the medium to follow their own dreams and goals, at the same time opening opportunities to fulfill their dreams.  The spirit guide has a higher perspective on earth affairs and can see further down any road and is thereby able to prophecy.  At all times we sow our own seeds of progress and all energies can be changed by our thoughts.  Spirit guides, thereby, can encourage, show potential and promise to the seeker, beyond where they sit in negative energies.

Clairgustience is another word for taste.  Clairoffal is the sense of smell enlarged.  Clair techniques are used in both psychic and mediumship work.
