Before I let you read this I have to admit that I started bawling while I wrote this. Although it is not based off of anything I've lived through it did come from the heart. This is my favorite piece of work I have ever completed and I would love feedback!
Unforeseen
Passing by a graveyard tree,
With flowers in her hand.
Forward she must will her feet,
To a familiar plot of land.
She lies her hand upon his tomb,
A cry escapes her throat.
Her voice weak she sets the tune,
And reads to him her note.
"I thought I had it figured out,
I was wrong to plan ahead.
Should not have seen a different route,
When I am standing here instead.
The loss of you, it cuts me deep,
Right through this tattered soul.
Where my heart once skipped a beat,
Now is left a gaping hole.
What I would give for one more day,
Once more to hear your voice.
No price is more than I would to pay,
If only given the choice.
My memories with you have yet to fade,
I feel their stay will be long.
My heart is heavy under the weight,
Of this sad and lonely song.
I will come find you in my next life,
Come hail, high-water or snow.
Till then I’ll remain your widowed wife,
Waiting for my time to go."
A single tear falls from her chin,
Before she says one last word.
"Hereafter" she whispers, voice worn thin,
Praying her message was heard.
She takes a deep breath, bites back the sting,
Knowing she can’t come undone.
A beam of sunlight reflects off her ring,
As she cradles their unborn son.
