Promise

I cannot promise
I'll make you laugh
When you're crying.

Neither can I say
I'll wipe your tears
And erase your fears.

I can,
At least
And at best,
Cry with you.

I likewise will promise nothing but an ear to hear.
I promise only nothing but a star by which to steer.
and if in the end or the begining we find each other safe and sound.
I promise you the light in me which leaves without a sound.
and the darkness is so loud it cannot hear.
and the light is so bright it cannot see us dear.
but the darkness can see quite clearly you know.
and the light can hear the way the wind will blow.
I promise you an arrow and a bow.
the arrow is to send and the bow is to know.
and I hear the tears before the laughter.
and in sympathy will stay until the former is the latter.
