Her heart pounded in her chest, blood pumping furiously to escape her veins. There was a constant pair of round lights staring at her as she lay suddenly on the ground, how did she get there? She couldn't remember anything after the moment she saw the car and heard it bellow out a warning. Then suddenly a rush of air went through her lungs with a terrible pang and she was back again. The cold night air raked the naked skin on her forearms but an unfamiliar sensation bled through her fingers. Sticky, soft, wet. She could tell she was hurt but where and how badly she had no clue. The lights blurred in and out and her head was spinning. A pair of legs rushed through the brightness and an unfamiliar voice tried to help her focus on what little she felt she could. The pain was so prominent. You know the feeling you get just before a really bad headache, the kind of pressure that makes you sick and nothing else matters but the pain you're about to endure? Yeah that. She felt that through every corner of her body and it felt like she was screaming; and she was. A man's voice surrounded her and it became more frantic as it seemed to search for a way to squelch the pain, but the only thing she could hear was her own screaming and the existence of any other sensation was drowned out by the burning in her chest that hadn't stopped since she hit the ground. She was on her way to a welcome home party only 5 blocks away, she had just gotten back from a trip so how could this happen now? Then there was another light and it felt like static clinging to her skin. She felt his fingers run through her hair and his skin was colored golden white. She looked up to catch a glimpse of the being that he was and only saw his smile. There was no fade to black, no darkness that people so commonly read about. There was only a second, a brief connotation of solidarity but there was never a cold that rushed over her as she passed into the grips of death, she didn't even feel alone. She saw friends and family, and people she didn't even know she knew. They were the angels that looked over her as she was alive and that were with her as she died. She no longer heard herself screaming, or felt the burning in her chest. There was only light and the most wonderful welcoming home she could have ever asked for.
