Clair d’Lune
In silent thought he sits alone
Now and then he softly moans
His amber flute sobs a dulcet tune
The rhapsody of Clair d’Lune
His confused, cavernous eyes
Bewildered, remember her lies
He stretches taut, his sinewy gauze wings
Like a hinged limb, marionette on strings
To wait in this secretive place
Souls were exposed and released
As children, their hearts were chaste
Where, they shared their fears in haste
Where rustling leaves whispered long
Deep sighs, until the fiery autumn dawn
And somehow they learnt to cope
With enchantment, and with hope
Of privacy, lest they should be stopped
Their plan abated, their secret lost
One final glance to see if she will come
Her sworn promise has left him numb
Midst evergreens; to give him her heart
A promise to let no one tear them apart
He whispers ‘Adieu’ into midnight air
As upon his cheek falls a crystal tear
He fades into an ethereal illusion
Forlorn at her inner completion
Where: for him, no place has been kept
For: someone new now sleeps on her breast
In her silent dream, she drifts alone
Restlessly, searching, she softly moans
An amber flute sobs a dulcet tune
The Rhapsody of Clair d’Lune
1st May 1987
