I have been here at the crossroads
I have stood here before
The first time led down the first path by the repetition of the pattern of those around me
The prayers and the songs the screams of Hallelujah and Praise God
All the cries of those who claim to know Him as the Lord God our savior
Almighty ever-pervasive God
Like the Sunday morning T.V. evangelists do
For the little old ladies that cant get up off of their beds
And the kids that are too little to sit still in the pews
So they sit at home on the couch eating Coco-Puffs
I have walked with Jesus and Moses
And the Apostles, Abraham, and Isaiah
And the rest of the founders and followers of the Christian and Catholic religions
All getting absolved of their sins
So that they can go out and do it all over again next week
Was that the true path? NO!
At least at that time it wasnt because I found myself back at the crossroad
Faced with the decision of which path to take
So I walked with the Lady of the Light
The Goddess, Isnt it funny how everything contains God?
The moon and the magic saying words the become incantations
And in their own right a sort-of prayer
Ending with things like As I will, so mote it be.
Living by the Wiccan rule and ye shall harm none
Giving thanks to the world of energy and magic believing in
The nature that I came from and will go to when this body is no longer
Meanwhile you have the Hippies smoking a bowl
And drinking six packs of Bud at a time
Popping acid tabs so that they can see
Pink flying elephants and blue phoenixes on fire
All the while screaming make love not war
Was that the path? NO!
At least at that time it wasnt
And there I was back at the crossroad
Again asking what path do I take?
I said to myself, NONE!
So I beat my own path
Beating back the brambles and the bushes
And the cynics and the heresayers
The devout believers of everything
I made my own path of a void, a vacuum of nothingness
Not believing in any religion
Just believing what I could see and hear
Using my five senses as my own sort of morbid, twisted religion
Denying the existence of anything greater than I
Following Descartes mantra I think therefore I am
Was this the right path? NO!
Because here I am back at the crossroads
On my quest for inner peace and sanctity in my soul.
Always knowing
But never believing what I knew
Or believing but never knowing what I believe
Is this it?
Is this what it all boils down to?
The choices of all these paths to be simply standing back and
Again at the crossroads
Taking this path or that and
Incessantly finding myself back at the self same crossroads
Standing there beaten and bereft of all meaning? NO!
The truth is that there is no path that is right
You can walk with magic
And the Lady of the Light
Or Jesus, and Moses and all the apostles
Or you can do as I did and beat your own path
In the void through the cynics and heresayers
Through the Hippies and Yuppies of every generation
But whatever path you choose
Is the right one for you at that moment
In this universe of energy
