I take this fig
on my tongue--
the tree
is my savior.
I take this fig
on my tongue
in my mouth
in my blood--
I take the fig so I can be
strong--
just like this fig tree
that builds ring upon ring--
strong--
so I can bend with the wind
then return to vertical--
strong--
so I can be who I am--
this fig tree
never needs
to remember
its roots.
