Looking Glass,
I will probanly regret this, but I will take on this challenge.
I pride myself on looking at both sides. I don't always have the qualifications, but I do try.
Please keep that in mind.
You have to consider that you don't state where you live. I only know the USA laws, and to break that down more,
Only Colorado.
Are you asking if I believe in the death penalty- yes I do.
If you are asking do I believe our prison system is right, no I don't.
I have had expeiriences where the person should be put to death, only 2.
I work with people who are in prison for various reasons, that they deserved,
but they did not come out better off. The system let them down. They will most likely do the same things over.
They don't have any choice.
The one's that have a choice and try very hard to make a differecnce, don't have a chance because of their past.
How do they win?????????????????
So Looking Glass- how do we fix this???????? If you had the answer, you wouldn't have asked the question!!!!!!
What would you do to fix this?
I think you have a personal reason for asking.
I will back you a thousand percent, if you have an idea.
If I overstepped, please forgive me.
Lots of love to you.

Hi Karlene,
Thanks for that response. I wasn't thinking about the death penalty in particular. I was thinking about the prison system in general and how they let society down. They were created to do three things, punish, protect by keeping dangerous people from doing dangerous things, and to rehabilitate. It's obvious that they punish but I feel they let us down in every other respect. People do come out worse, and then we ask why that is the case. Some of the things people must do to survive in prison, they would not think of doing out of prison. And in the case of those who do come out, we stack the cards against them and then wonder why they fall to old ways.
I don't have an answer. We can speak on idealism, but it is obvious something needs changing. Like everything else it begins with understanding that something is not right. We continue to build prisons (at least in the USA) and pursue ridiculous punishments for common sense cases. We give one person life for murder, but in other cases just 7 years. In cases of rape, we humiliate the victim, and then let the rapist out for good behavior. In cases of pedophilia, we throw the book if it's a man, and turn our head when it's a woman. Maybe one day we'll figure it out.
