Dada,

That is very loving and affectionate and respectable word I learnt while touring the North East of India, so I shall call you that. You are right: Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread and this maybe true even though not always. Let us assume that is true but it can be only 99% for that balance 1% I have experienced no fear while travelling all over the country frequently and have many many experiences where I or we have been trapped in hopeless situation.

Our bus has had a break down in terrorist affected locality more 6/7 times or maybe even more. We have to do without the Military Escort as the bus has had problems and they had to leave us. On all those occasions we have reached our destination safely and in one of those rare incidents when the military were escorting the line of busses and trucks (we were left behind due to problem with the bus which took time to start) one of the busses which had gone way ahead was trapped by terrorirst and looted with the military being helpless watchers as they put barricades after this bus.

I have been stranded right in the middle of the night in a very small city in no man's land where I could not even see a dog, leave alone human being. Still I managed to get help as Fear was the last thing in my mind. Hence I did not answer your first two questions and left it to you to reply as you can best explain it.

In 1978 while travelling from Silliguri to New Jalpaiguri by autoriksha at 8.15 p.m. (I was specificallly told by the local people not to go on that route after 7 p.m. as it is isolated and there have been many held ups by Thugs who just waylay you and cut your throat with knives and loot you) I still went not paying any heed to their advise. At 9 P.M. I just woke up in the Hospital where boys asked me in Bengali. Dada you will be all right now. Shall we go. Deep inside I felt something wrong but I did not know and I did not care. Realty struck me only when I was being operated upon and within 1 hour of the accident I was on the operating table.

To cut short my long narration and I have plenty to say but I do not have your power of expression and speaking about myself is not good I refrain, I returned back after being discharged from the Hospital with my luggage intact, money intact and reached home on the fifth night.

When you dare and not care, where is Fear for Fear fears you. But yes the point you raised is appropriate for 99%. One gentleman told me there is a riot going on in a particular area in Gauhati. I asked him if he wants he can come with me and nothing will happen. Then he gave me the same advise though in a different language (Fools go where Angels fear to tread).

There was another incident when I was coming from Tinsukia to Gauhati having reservation by a bus which was robbed just the previous night. I came to know about this from passengers waiting for a number of busses at a place where I had booked the ticket. I asked the agent who gave me the ticket which bus was looted. He said the one you are going in. Should I change your ticket to another bus. I told him calmly I would prefer travelling by the same bus. The bus came late. It got postponed another 1 hour at just the outer of the City. Another Bus came to pick us up and took us to our destination safe and sound.

Well Dada care to write a book on this subject I shall give you many many personal incidents in my life, true life incidents.
