Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.

But really -- Pravin Kumar jee! Let us move away from SAINTS like Gandhijee (who some of his own kind did not consider as a saint and KILLED mercilessly just as he was going to pray to God!
Christ was assasinated too but by those who did not accept His religious teachings back then but would KILL for it NOW and have! (Crusades and all ... that follows!)
Prayer is simply a human being acknowledging a fear that seems overwhelming and which the human feels can be FIXED and so asks for HELP!
But really --- PRAYER is something else!
It is like a ROSE that one managed to smell and not just a symbol or token of something or the other!

Dada,
Prayer is both.
For many it is to overcome Fear and for some rose which they managed to smell and once again want to smell. All Great Men and Saints have died violently. Ramkrishna Paramhansa died due to Cancer. Now Sukhdeo Maharaj, a very highly respected and one of the Senior Most Saints, died with cancer. You know about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and I am sure you could add to this list more names. This is because they believe their body is not theirs. They have only Souls and can see their own Death from a distance, freeing themselves from their Body and living as a Soul.
For them living for others is living. Living for themselves is no living. Rose spreads fragrance and hence rose is liked and similary such people who spread fragrance are sought after for the fragrance they spread.
