I am sure it was a spirit. Most of the time they are not there to scare you or haunt you and as soon as they realized they did so they will dissappear. As for the others stating to get evidence there is really not much you can do to get physical evidence unless you have special scientific equipment, a camera usually doesn't work because the pictures can be soo manipulated.

There is a reason why this person is visiting you it maybe that you are starting to understand more about the spirit world and that this being is drawn to you for some reason.  

If you are scared and you want to get rid of the being than you need to tell them "that it is time for them to go to the light" and usually that will take them to where they need to be.
